  1. 6. Recovery of iron and manganese values from metallurgical slags by the oxidation route

    Author : Anna Semykina; Seshadri Seetharaman; Gabriella Tranell; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; oxidation; metallurgical slag; recycling; FeO; iron recovery; manganese recovery; manganese ferrite; nano-ferrites; oxidation process; TTT; crystallization; kinetics studies; thermodynamic studies; modelling; cold-model studies; electromagnetic buoyancy force; Metallurgical process engineering; Metallurgisk processteknik; Metallurgical process and manufacturing engineering; Metallurgisk process- och produktionsteknik; Materials science; Teknisk materialvetenskap;

    Abstract : In the modern practice, a sustainable development strategy in a domain of wasteutilization is shifting its focus from a general completeness of recycling to a morespecific attention to efficiently utilize elements in the wastes. This is well-illustrated bythe steelmaking slag industries. READ MORE

  2. 7. On the System Optimization of Magnetic Circuit with Alternative Permanent Magnets and its Demagnetization

    Author : Jonathan Sjölund; Sandra Eriksson; Leijon Mats; Sami Ruoho; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Permanent magnet machines; Finite element method; ferrite permanent magnets; linear machines; Engineering Science with specialization in Science of Electricity; Teknisk fysik med inriktning mot elektricitetslära;

    Abstract : Permanent magnet (PM) machines are often associated with the usage of rare earth magnets, due to their high energy density. One such rare earth magnet is the neodymium-iron-boron (NdFeB), which is mainly produced in China. Due to the global scarcity of the rare earth magnets, much interest is put into utilizing other permanent magnet materials. READ MORE

  3. 8. New and old materials for permanent magnets based on earth-abundant elements

    Author : Daniel Hedlund; Peter Svedlindh; Martin Sahlberg; Mogens Christensen; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; permanent magnets; material development; sustainability; Engineering Science with specialization in Solid State Physics; Teknisk fysik med inriktning mot fasta tillståndets fysik;

    Abstract : Electrical motors, which find use in e.g. electrical vehicles, require per-manent magnets to function. Comparing ferrite magnets and Nd-based magnets reveals a large difference in their price and performance. READ MORE

  4. 9. Wave Power for Desalination

    Author : Jennifer Leijon; Cecilia Boström; Irina Temiz; Jens Engström; Deborah Greaves; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : Wave power; desalination; freshwater; engineering education; linear generator; wave energy converter; Engineering Science with specialization in Science of Electricity; Teknisk fysik med inriktning mot elektricitetslära;

    Abstract : This doctoral thesis presents work related to wave powered desalination. Wave power for desalination could be an interesting alternative for islands or coastal regions facing freshwater shortage, and several systems have been proposed in literature. However, desalination is a process which demands a lot of energy. READ MORE

  5. 10. Interactions between iron oxides and the additives quartzite, calcite and olivine in magnetite-based pellets

    Author : Pär Semberg; Lawrence Hooey; Luleå tekniska universitet; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Process Metallurgy; Processmetallurgi;

    Abstract : In the present study, magnetite pellets with large amounts of the additives olivine, calcite and quartzite were isothermally reduced in a tubular furnace to study the interaction between iron oxides and the additives. A first attempt at using exaggerated amounts of additives was made in order to enable analyses of phases that do not otherwise occur in sufficient amounts for Xray diffraction and EDS-analyses.
