1. 11C Molecular Imaging in Focal Epilepsy
Abstract : Epilepsy is a common neurological disease affecting 6 million people in Europe. Early prevention and accurate diagnosis and treatment are of importance to obtain seizure freedom. In this thesis new applications of carbon-11-labelled tracers in PET and autoradiographic studies were explored in focal epilepsy. READ MORE

2. The use of Fenton chemistry for reducing the refining energy during TMP production : the effect of free ferrous and free or chelated ferric ions
Abstract : The potential of using acid hydrogen peroxide under Fenton conditions to lowerthe electrical energy consumed during the production of Black spruce (Piceamariana) thermomechanical pulp (TMP) was investigated in pilot scale. Thechemical system, which consisted of ferrous sulphate, hydrogen peroxide andoptionally an enhancer (such as a chelating agent), was evaluated as an inter-stagetreatment. READ MORE

3. Possibilities to use industrial oxidic by-products as neutralising agent in bioleaching and the effect of chloride on biooxidation
Abstract : The cost for neutralisation is the second largest cost in a bioleaching operation for which, possibilities to replace generally used lime/limestone was tested. Industrial oxidic by-products generated form Swedish industries were investigated for neutralising capacities by chemical leaching with sulphuric acid at pH 1. READ MORE

4. Structural, Electronic and Reactive Properties of Pentapyridyl - Base Metal Complexes : Relevance for Water Oxidation Catalysis
Abstract : The rationalization of chemical-physical proprieties of transition metal complexes is fundamental in order to understand and tune their reactivity. In this thesis, a systematic investigation of the geometrical and electronic properties of [M(Py5OH)Cl]+ complexes (M= Mn, Fe, Co, Ni) has been performed, and their ability to act as molecular water oxidation catalysts has been probed. 5. Removal of Natural Organic Matter and Control of Trihalomethanes Formation in Water Treatment
Abstract : Volcanic ash, pumice and Moringa oleifera (M. oleifera) were investigated as indigenous materials for removal of natural organic matter (NOM) at Kampala and Masaka water treatment plants in Uganda. READ MORE
