  1. 1. Biological Markers of Fertility

    Author : Sarah Nordqvist; Helena Åkerud; Karin Kårehed; Agneta Skoog Svanberg; Anneli Stavreus-Evers; Geraldine Hartshorne; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; angiogenesis; embryogenesis; female reproductive tract; fertility; fertilization; Histidine-rich glycoprotein; intron; in vitro fertilization; oocyte; ovarian response; pregnancy; single nucleotide polymorphism; Src homology 2 domain-containing adapter protein B;

    Abstract : Infertility affects 15 % of couples, which corresponds to 60 - 80 million worldwide. The microenvironments in which the oocyte, embryo and fetus mature are vital to the establishment and development of a healthy pregnancy. READ MORE

  2. 2. Greenhouse Gas Fluxes and Carbon Sequestration in Young Norway Spruce Stands : The Effects of Fertilization

    Abstract : The enormous challenge of climate change is discussed and debated today because of its major impact on life on Earth. The forests have an important role to play as the plants absorb carbon dioxide (CO2) from the atmosphere through their photosynthesis and the growing tree retain carbon (C). READ MORE

  4. 4. Nutrient Limitation of Bacterial Growth in Soil

    Author : Fredrik Demoling; Biologiska institutionen; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Ekologi; Ecology; Fertilization; Bacteria; Soil; Fungi; Thymidine or Leucine incorporation; Growth limitation; Phosphorus; Nitrogen; Carbon;

    Abstract : Lack of carbon has been assumed to be the most common limiting factor for bacterial growth in soil, although there are reports of limitation by nitrogen and phosphorus. I have studied nutrient limitation of bacterial growth in soil using a novel technique, where thymidine or leucine incorporation is used to detect changes in growth rates after adding nutrients. 5. 5. Genetic variation and sexual reproduction in a moss with dwarf males, Homalothecium lutescens

    Author : Frida Rosengren; Biodiversitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; bryophytes; mosses; dwarf males; sexual reproduction; genetic variation; genetic structure; inbreeding; isozymes; allozymes; SNP; sporophytes; spore; fertilization; fertility;

    Abstract : Dwarf males occur in many unrelated groups of organisms. Among land plants they are unique to mosses. Moss dwarf males originate from male spores that land and germinate on the female where their final size is restricted to a few mm. Fertilization in mosses occur over short distances with swimming spermatozoids. READ MORE
