  1. 1. Mesenchymal Stem Cells in Tumor Growth Inhibition and Cartilage Differentiation

    Author : Laura Varas; Immunologi; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Biomedicinska vetenskaper; Medicine human and vertebrates ; Medicin människa och djur ; mesenchymal stem cell; Biomedical sciences; tumor growth inhibition; FGF2; cartilage; integrin alpha11beta1; integrin alpha10beta1;

    Abstract : The work presented in this thesis has been focused on mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs). In the two first studies, the effects of MSCs on tumor growth and development in vitro and in vivo was investigated. READ MORE

  2. 2. Studies on the Roles of PDGFRA and EGFR in the Classification and Identification of Therapeutic Targets for Human Gliomas

    Author : Dongfeng Chen; Neurokirurgi; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Gliomas; classification; EGFR; PDGFRA; FGF2; surface expression; cell proliferation;

    Abstract : Glioma is the most common type of primary tumor in the adult central nervous system (CNS). However, the current classification of gliomas is highly subjective and even inaccurate in some cases, which leads to clinical confusion and hinders the development of targeted therapies. READ MORE

  3. 3. Prognostic Biomarkers and Target Proteins for Treatment of High-grade Gliomas

    Author : Linda Sooman; Simon Ekman; Johan Lennartsson; Joachim Gullbo; Michael Bergqvist; Erik Blomquist; Stefan Bergström; Beatrice Melin; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; High-grade glioma; prognostic biomarkers; combination chemotherapy; DNA methylation; FGF2; p38 MAPK; PTPN6; camptothecin; imatinib; vandetanib; EGFR; RAC1; Notch; Medical Science; Medicinsk vetenskap; Oncology; Onkologi;

    Abstract : The survival for high-grade glioma patients is poor and the treatment may cause severe side effects. A common obstacle in the treatment is chemoresistance. To improve the quality of life and prolong survival for these patients prognostic biomarkers and new approaches for chemotherapy are needed. READ MORE

  4. 4. On the actions of neurotrophic factors on the chromaffin cells of the adrenal medulla

    Author : Petter Förander; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : Neural crest; chromaffin cells; neurotrophic factors; NGF; NT-3; NT4; CNTF; GDNF; TGFß; FGF2; glucocorticoids; Intra oculartransplantation ; primary cultures; neurite outgrowth;

    Abstract : Chromaffin cells producing adrenaline or noradrenaline are the predominant cell type in the adrenal medulla, but ganglion cells and Schwann cells are also present. All cells of the adrenal medulla are derived from the neural crest, which is a transient neuroectoderm-derived embryonic structure. READ MORE

  5. 5. Decoding Heparan Sulfate

    Author : Johan Kreuger; John T. Gallager; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Biochemistry; Heparan sulfate; fibroblast growth factor; receptor; endostatin; angiogenesis; interaction; sequence; Biokemi; Biochemistry; Biokemi; Medical Biochemistry; medicinsk biokemi;

    Abstract : Heparan sulfate (HS) is a polysaccharide of glycosaminoglycan type composed of alternating hexuronic acid [either glucuronic acid (GlcA) or iduronic acid (IdoA)] and glucosamine (GlcN) units that can be sulfated in various positions. HS binds to a large number of proteins and these interactions promote many biological processes, including cell adhesion and growth factor signaling. READ MORE
