  1. 1. Distributions Of Fiber Characteristics As A Tool To Evaluate Mechanical Pulps

    Author : Sofia Reyier Österling; Per Engstrand; Hans Höglund; Olof Ferritsius; Rita Ferritsius; Hans Ersson; Per Gradin; Mittuniversitetet; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Fiber; fibre; fiber characteristics; fiber dimension; fiber properties; mechanical pulp; FiberLab; raw data; distribution; fiber wall thickness; BIN; bonding ability influence; bonding indicator; bonding ability; fiber width; fibrillation; collapse resistance; laboratory sheet; fiber analyzer; optical analyzer; TMP; CTMP; SGW; sheet model; prediction; fiber characterization; hydrocyclone; fractionation; kernel density estimation; KDE; diffusion mixing; acoustic emission; F0.90; Norway spruce; Picea abies;

    Abstract : Mechanical pulps are used in paper products such as magazine or news grade printing papers or paperboard. Mechanical pulping gives a high yield; nearly everything in the tree except the bark is used in the paper. This means that mechanical pulping consumes much less wood than chemical pulping, especially to produce a unit area of printing surface. READ MORE

  2. 2. Bonding Ability Distribution of Fibers in Mechanical Pulp Furnishes

    Author : Sofia Reyier; Per Engstrand; Hans Höglund; Olof Ferritsius; Hans Ersson; Rita Ferritsius; Philip Reme; Mittuniversitetet; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Fiber; mechanical pulp; bonding ability; fiber characterization; Bonding Indicator; BIN; acoustic emission; hydrocyclone; Fiberlab; collapse resistance; fibrillation; Fiber; mekanisk massa; bindningsförmåga; fiber karakterisering; Bindnings Indikator; BIN; akustisk emission; hydrocyklon; Fiberlab; kollaps resistans; fibrillering; Cellulose and paper engineering; Cellulosa- och pappersteknik;

    Abstract : This thesis presents a method of measuring the distribution of fiber bonding ability in mechanical pulp furnishes. The method is intended for industrial use, where today only average values are used to describe fiber bonding ability, despite the differences in morphology of the fibers entering the mill. 3. 3. Numerical modeling of air-fiber flows

    Author : Jelena Andric; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; aggregation; particle-level simulation; rheology; fiber; dry-forming; fiber suspension;

    Abstract : The dynamics of fiber suspensions are of great importance in applications such as the dry-forming process of pulp mats for use in hygiene products. In this forming process, fibers are transported in flowing air. The fibers interact with the fluid, and may interact with each other and interlock in flocs. READ MORE

  4. 4. Nanostructured Cellulose Biocomposites : Effects from dispersion, network and interface

    Author : Mohd Farhan Ansari; Lars Berglund; Jean-Francois Gerard; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Wood; cellulose nanofibrils; hygromechanical properties; network structure; thermoset; polymer matrix composites; natural fiber composites; pulp fiber; strain hardening; humidity; Fiber- och polymervetenskap; Fibre and Polymer Science;

    Abstract : The major load bearing component in native wood, cellulose nanofibrils, are potential candidates for use as reinforcement in polymer matrices. This study is based on nanocellulose composites and attempts to prepare and characterize biocomposites with high nanocellulose content and investigate the influence of nanostructure on macroscopic properties. 5. 5. Eco-friendly Holocellulose Materials for Mechanical Performance and Optical Transmittance

    Author : Xuan Yang; Lars Berglund; Eero Kontturi; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Fiber- och polymervetenskap; Fibre and Polymer Science;

    Abstract : Cellulosic materials can be sustainable replacements for fossil-based plastics; yet for some applications improvements are needed for mechanical properties, optical transmittance and eco-friendly characteristics. In this thesis, holocellulose materials are investigated for this purpose, and processing-structure-property relationships are discussed. READ MORE
