21. Influence of Fiber Nonlinearity on the Capacity of Optical Channel Models
Abstract : The majority of today’s global Internet traffic is conveyed through optical fibers. The ever-increasing data demands has pushed the optical systems to evolve from using regenerators and direct-direction receivers to a coherent multi-wavelength network. READ MORE

22. Mitigation of nonlinear fiber distortion using phase conjugation
Abstract : This thesis is devoted to the study of fiber-optic communication systems that mitigate nonlinear distortion due to the Kerr effect by transmitting a phase-conjugated copy alongside the signal followed by coherent superposition. This kind of communication systems are referred to as phase-conjugated twin waves systems when the phase-conjugated copy is transmitted on the orthogonal polarization. READ MORE

23. Fish Lenses : Anatomy and Optics
Abstract : I have investigated some of the biological regulatory mechanisms governing the development of crystalline lenses. I used fish as model animals because they possess optically interesting lenses, while the geometrical simplicity of fish lenses allows for studies that are difficult or impossible with the lenses of other animals. 24. Noise and Saturation Properties of Fiber Optical
Abstract : Fiber Optical Parametric Amplifiers (FOPAs) are based on a highly efficient Four-wave Mixing process in highly nonlinearfibers and have gained a lot of interest since it was shown that ahigh gain can be obtained. They are multi-functional devices thatare not only limited to amplifying signals, but their wide range ofapplicability also include wavelength conversion, pulse-generation,optical sampling and also regeneration at very high bit-rates. 25. Laser processing of Silica based glass
Abstract : The main topic of this thesis work is photosensitivity and photo-structuring of optical fibers and bulk glass. Although research in the field of photosensitivity in glass and optical fibers has been ongoing for more than three decades, the underlying mechanisms are still not well understood. READ MORE
