1. Flexible fiberoptic bronchoscopy : studies on methods for the diagnosis of carcinoma of the lung, bronchial mucosal damage and haemodynamic effects
Abstract : The diagnostic accuracy attained with the use of transbronchial fine needle aspiration biopsy, aspiration of bronchial secretion, bronchial washing, brush biopsy and forceps biopsy via a flexible fiberoptic bronchoscope was compared in patients with carcinoma of the lung. In endoscopic visible tumours the sensitivity of forceps biopsy was higher than that of the other methods. READ MORE

2. Laser doppler tissue flowmetry : fiberoptic methods in microvascular research
Abstract : Laser Doppler flowmetry (LDF) constitutes a method for measuring the flux of blood cells in the microcirculatory bed. Photons are scattered in the moving blood cells, where they undergo a frequency shift according to the Doppler principle. READ MORE

3. Phase-Sensitive Parametric Signal Processing in Optical Communications
Abstract : This thesis covers the analysis of several schemes for parametric processing in fiberoptic communication systems, focusing mainly on phase-sensitive processing. Vector phase-sensitive amplifiers are characterized and phase regeneration of a dualpolarization (DP)-binary phase-shift keying signal (BPSK) signal is experimentally demonstrated. READ MORE

4. Optical Monitoring of Cerebral Microcirculation
Abstract : The cerebral microcirculation consists of a complex network of small blood vessels that support nerve cells with oxygen and nutrition. The blood flow and oxygen delivery in the microcirculatory blood vessels are regulated through mechanisms which may be influenced or impaired by disease or brain damage resulting from conditions such as brain tumors, traumatic brain injury or subarachnoid hemorrhage (SAH). 5. Airway management in anaesthesia care : – professional and patient perspectives
Abstract : Background: Careful airway management, including tracheal intubation, is important when performing anaesthesia in order to achieve safe tracheal intubation. Aim: To study airway management in anaesthesia care from both the professional and patient perspectives. READ MORE
