  1. 6. Network Disruption and Turbulence in Fibre Suspensions

    Author : Sven Andersson; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; transition; friction; refractive index matching; Laser Doppler Anemometry LDA ; boundary-layer; Computational Fluid Dynamics CFD ; medium consistency MC ; network strength; fluidisation; pulp; suspension; fibres;

    Abstract : The production of paper pulp involves the handling of large quantities of fibre suspensions. Today's call for energy efficiency and environmentally sound processes has led to the development of MC (Medium Consistency) technology. READ MORE

  2. 7. Dimensional Stability of Paper : Influence of Fibre-Fibre Joints and Fibre Wall Oxidation

    Author : Per A. Larsson; Lars Wågberg; Mikael Lindström; Lars Berglund; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Cellulose and paper engineering; Cellulosa- och pappersteknik;

    Abstract : Papper är ett mycket mångsidigt material. Trots detta finns det ett flertal egenskaper som begränsar papperets användbarhet. Ett av de större problemen med cellulosa- och lignocellulosafibrer är att de sänker sin fria energi genom att sorbera vatten, och denna sorption förändrar papperets dimensioner. READ MORE

  3. 8. Nanostructured Cellulose Biocomposites : Effects from dispersion, network and interface

    Author : Mohd Farhan Ansari; Lars Berglund; Jean-Francois Gerard; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Wood; cellulose nanofibrils; hygromechanical properties; network structure; thermoset; polymer matrix composites; natural fiber composites; pulp fiber; strain hardening; humidity; Fiber- och polymervetenskap; Fibre and Polymer Science;

    Abstract : The major load bearing component in native wood, cellulose nanofibrils, are potential candidates for use as reinforcement in polymer matrices. This study is based on nanocellulose composites and attempts to prepare and characterize biocomposites with high nanocellulose content and investigate the influence of nanostructure on macroscopic properties. 4. 9. Manufacture of long-fibre reinforced ceramics by reaction bonding

    Author : Jesper Brandt; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; weaves; slurry infiltration; fibre; aluminium oxide; reaction bonding; ceramic matrix composite; mullite; silicon nitride; alumina; CMC;

    Abstract : For several decades ceramic matrix composites has been of interest to be used as hot parts in certain high-performance gas turbine aero engines. In general, ceramic materials resist higher temperatures than superalloys. READ MORE

  5. 10. Modelling and simulation of paper structure development

    Author : Stefan B Lindström; Tetsu Uesaka; Myat Htun; Cyrus Aidun; Mittuniversitetet; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Forming; Fibre; Paper; Fibre suspension; Paper structure; Simulation; Rheology; Chemical engineering; Kemiteknik; Engineering physics; Teknisk fysik;

    Abstract :      A numerical tool has been developed for particle-level simulations of fibre suspension flows, particularly forming of the fibre network structure of paper sheets in the paper machine. The model considers inert fibres of various equilibrium shapes, and finite stiffness, interacting with each other through normal, frictional, and lubrication forces, and with the surrounding fluid medium through hydrodynamic forces.
