  1. 1. Phase Modulation Techniques for On-Off Keying in Optical Fibre Transmission

    Author : Marco Forzati; [2007]
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; return-to-zero; fibre optics communication; phase modulation; nonlinear optics; dispersion management; high-speed optical transmission; modulation formats; fibres;

    Abstract : Increasing the channel bit rate is an efficient way to upgrade traffic capacity in installed transmission links. At bit rates of the order of 40 Gb/s, on-off keying (OOK) transmission becomes severely impaired by non-linear effects especially Intra-channel Four-Wave Mixing (IFWM) which limit the power at which the signal can be transmitted, and ultimately the transmission distance. 2. 2. Time-Resolved Spectroscopy for Pharmaceutical Applications

    University dissertation from Atomic Physics, Department of Physics, Lund University

    Author : Christoffer Abrahamsson; Lund University.; Lunds universitet.; [2005]
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Elektromagnetism; optik; Near-infrared spectroscopy; Time-resolved spectroscopy; Pharmaceutical analysis; Multivariate data analysis; Electromagnetism; Light transport in turbid media; Photon migration; akustik; acoustics; optics;

    Abstract : The work presented in this thesis aims at improving spectroscopic techniques for analysis of pharmaceutical solids. This improvement is achieved by the combining and development of instrumentations and data evaluation tools from two research fields: the fields of near infrared spectroscopy and biomedical optics. 3. 3. Investigations of Issues Relevant to the Application of Photon Echoes in Information Technology

    University dissertation from Division of Atomic Physics, Department of Physics, Faculty of Engineering, LTH, Lund University

    Author : Ulf Elman; Lund University.; Lunds universitet.; [1998]
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; nonlinear optics; fibre amplifier; Boolean operation; rare earth metals; Atom- och molekylärfysik; Atomic and molecular physics; optical processing; photon echo; optical storage; Fysicumarkivet A:1998:Elman;

    Abstract : Photon echoes have been studied both experimentally and theoretically, with the main part of the work centred around the concept of using photon echoes for all-optical data storage and processing. The four basic Boolean operators, AND, OR, NOT and XOR have been experimentally demonstrated using photon echoes. READ MORE

  4. 4. New innovative methods for non-intrusive optical diagnostics of high-voltage insulator materials

    University dissertation from KFS AB

    Author : Magnus Bengtsson; Lund University.; Lunds universitet.; [2006]
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Atom- och molekylärfysik; Atomic and molecular physics; akustik; optik; optics; acoustics; Electromagnetism; Microbiology; bacteriology; virology; mycology; Mikrobiologi; bakteriologi; virologi; mykologi; fluorescence; optical diagnostics; high-voltage insulation; remote sensing; polymeric insulators; lidar; biological contamination; Gases; fluid dynamics; plasmas; Gaser; fluiddynamik; plasma; Energy research; Energiforskning; Elektromagnetism;

    Abstract : The purpose of this PhD thesis work has been to develop optical techniques that can help utility engineers for assessing the state of insulators in service and in a laboratory. The possibilities to use remote laser induced fluorescence for detection and imaging of biological growth such as algae and fungi have been investigated. READ MORE

  5. 5. The alternate-phase return-to-zero modulation format in high-speed optical-fibre communications

    University dissertation from KFS AB

    Author : Marco Forzati; [2006]
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; high-speed optical transmission; return-to-zero; nonlinear optics; dispersion management; phase modulation; modulation formats; Fibre optics communication; fibres;

    Abstract : Increasing the channel bit rate is an efficient way to upgrade traffic capacity in installed transmission links. At bit rates of the order of 40 Gb/s, on-off keying transmission becomes severely impaired by non-linear effects,particularly Intra-channel Cross-Phase Modulation (IXPM) and Intra-channel Four-Wave Mixing (IFWM), which cause pulses in different bit slots to interact with each-other.
