21. Regulation of bile acids by prebiotic food components : Studies in rat caecum and in serum of mice and humans
Abstract : Bile acids (BA) are formed from cholesterol in the liver and, apart from being part of fat digestion, they also act as signalling molecules in several health-related physiological processes. BA composition is regulated by gut microbiota as well as dietary fibre (DF) and fat in the diet. READ MORE

22. Structural behaviour of shotcrete in hard rock tunnels
Abstract : Tunnels in hard and jointed rock are normally excavated in an arch shape to enable the rock mass to support its weight. Since the beginning of the 1980's, fibre reinforced shotcrete (FRS) in combination with rock bolts have been the dominating support method for hard rock tunnels. READ MORE

23. Moisture-induced stress and distortion of wood : A numerical and experimental study of wood's drying and long-term behaviour
Abstract : With the current advances made in three-dimensional modelling of wood, it is possible to provide an overall picture of moisture flow, and moisture-induced stress and deformations, whereas previously, experiments only provided local measurements. The main aim of the doctoral thesis is to investigate the possibilities of the developed three-dimensional numerical model to predict the behaviour of wood when simultaneously exposed to a mechanical load and a particular climate. 24. Laminated Veneer Products : Shape Stability and Effect of Enhanced Formability on Bond-Line Strength
Abstract : This thesis concerns two aspects of the manufacture of laminated veneer products (LVPs). The first aspect is related to the possible improvement of the shape stability of LVPs, and the second has its starting point in the modification of the veneer for enhanced formability as well as the question of whether and how these modifications affect the bond-line strength. 25. Measurement and prediction of dewatering characteristics for mechanical pulpsusing optical fibre analysis
Abstract : On‐line measurement of relevant fibre and pulp characteristics is necessary in order to increase productivity and to maintain uniform quality. The drainage properties within the wire and the press section are important factors since they affect the dry content after the press section. READ MORE
