1. The fibrinolytic enzyme system : new markers of potential interest in cardiovascular disease
Abstract : Impaired fibrinolytic function, mainly due to elevated plasma levels of PAI-1, is a common finding in patients with coronary heart disease. Determination or evaluation of the plasma PAI-1 concentrations are complicated, due to a natural variation in blood plasma or due to other reasons, such as a poor stability under physiological conditions. 2. Local regulation of the endogenous fibrinolytic system in man
Abstract : The physiologically most important activator of intravascular fibrinolysis is tissue-type plasminogen activator (tPA). The endothelium synthesises and stores tPA and regulated release of the enzyme is an important mechanism for removal of fibrin from blood vessels. Plasminogen activator inhibitor type-1 (PAI-1) is the main inhibitor of tPA. READ MORE

3. Epigenetic regulation of gene expression in the vascular endothelium
Abstract : Epigenetic mechanisms, such as DNA methylation and histone modifications, constitute one way for a cell or an organism to respond to changes in the surrounding environment. While histone modifications are recognized to be quite dynamic, DNA methylation has been considered a more stable, or long-term, modification. READ MORE

4. Regulation of vascular endothelial t-PA expression in inflammation: Potential target for pharmacological modulation
Abstract : The endogenous fibrinolytic system is important for preventing occluding thrombosis and subsequent tissue infarction. The main activator of the fibrinolytic system in the vascular compartment is tissue-type plasminogen activator (t-PA). READ MORE

5. Studies on fibrin gel structure
Abstract : Fibrin gel formation is the final result of interaction between multiple plasma proteins; as a result of activation, fibrinogen is converted to fibrin and crosslinking of fibrin occurs by activated factor XIII, which stabilises the formed clot. Fibrin gel networks were studied in purified fibrinogen systems and in plasma samples from patients with cardiovascular complications and healthy individuals, using light-scattering, turbidity, liquid permeation and confocal 3D microscopy techniques.
