1. Local regulation of the endogenous fibrinolytic system in man
Abstract : The physiologically most important activator of intravascular fibrinolysis is tissue-type plasminogen activator (tPA). The endothelium synthesises and stores tPA and regulated release of the enzyme is an important mechanism for removal of fibrin from blood vessels. Plasminogen activator inhibitor type-1 (PAI-1) is the main inhibitor of tPA. READ MORE

2. Bacterial interaction with the fibrinolytic system and extracellular matrix
Abstract : Bacterial infection of host organisms is a state of complex interaction between the parasite and the host. Two critical steps in the infectious process are: Adhesion to the epithelial surfaces and penetration of tissue barriers to gain entrance to tissues and into the circulation. These two steps have been the subjects of this thesis. READ MORE

3. Experimental Models of the Human Peritoneal Environment: Effects of TGF-beta and Hyaluronan
Abstract : BACKGROUND Post surgical adhesion formation is still an unsolved problem and occurs when there is an imbalance between fibrin deposition and fibrin clearing capacity in the abdominal cavity. Transforming growth factor beta (TGF-?) is associated with fibrosis and hyaluronan has in several studies been showed to reduce adhesions. READ MORE

4. Jejunoileal bypass for morbid obesity : studies of the long-term effects
Abstract : This study was aimed at investigating adverse and beneficial long-term effects of jejunoileal bypass (JIB) sugery in obese patients. The JIB was the first widly used surgical procedure for treatment of morbid obesity. The weight loss was remarkable, but the procedure was declared not appropiate for obesity surgery in the late 1970's. READ MORE

5. Fibrinolytic factors in relation to anthropometry and incident type 2 diabetes
Abstract : Fibrinolytic imbalance is associated with cardiovascular disease and its risk factors. The longitudinal changes in the fibrinolytic factors tissue plasminogen activator (tPA), plasminogen activator inhibitor-1 (PAI-1) and tPA/PAI-1 complex have been inadequately studied in the general population and in relation to incident type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM).
