  1. 1. Making travel sustainable with ICT? : The social practice of travel planning and travel information use in everyday life

    Author : Åsa Nyblom; Mattias Höjer; Greger Henriksson; Marie Thynell; KTH; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; HUMANIORA; HUMANITIES; Travel planning; travel information; travel information services; travel planners; sustainable social practices; practice theory; everyday life; ICT; urban transport; user-centred perspective; Planering och beslutsanalys; Planning and Decision Analysis;

    Abstract : Adopting the perspective of the traveller, this thesis examines how travel plans are actually made in the everyday situation and how information is used and drawn on when planning the many, often unremarkable, trips of ordinary urban life. Ethnographical field studies in southern Stockholm, Sweden, employing a practice theory perspective showed that people use a vast mixture of different types of information when planning and making trips. 2. 2. Supporting Dynamic Decision Making in Naval Search and Evasion Tasks

    Author : Christofer Waldenström; Love Ekenberg; Mats Danielson; Peter Thunholm; Neville Stanton; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; Decision support; visualization; dynamic decision-making; naval warfare; expanding search area; field of safe travel; search task; evasion task; ecological interface; anti-submarine warfare; constraints; flaming datum; Computer and Systems Sciences; data- och systemvetenskap; Ledningsvetenskap;

    Abstract : This thesis investigates a decision aid to support tasks where there is an initial sighting of an object and then the decision maker has to guide some vehicles, either to reestablish contact with the lost object or to stay clear of it. As such, the tasks are analogous to naval search and evasion tasks. READ MORE

    Abstract : Reduced independent mobility of blind and low-vision individuals (BLVIs) cause considerable societal cost, burden on relatives, and reduced quality of life for the individuals, including increased anxiety, depression symptoms, need of assistance, risk of falls, and mortality. Despite the numerous electronic travel aids proposed since at least the 1940’s, along with ever-advancing technology, the mobility issues persist. READ MORE

  4. 4. Mechanical braking systems for trains: A study of temperatures, fatigue and wear by experiments and simulations

    Author : Mandeep Singh Walia; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; tread brakes; experiments; temperatures; disc brakes; wear; Railway braking; simulations; fatigue;

    Abstract : Increased demand for shorter travel times, higher axle loads, increased volumes and increased punctuality of railway traffic calls for a better design and management of the railway subsystems. The present thesis deals with aspects of mechanical friction brakes, in the form of tread brakes and disc brakes. READ MORE
