  1. 1. Essays on Field Experiments and Impact Evaluation

    Author : Remidius Denis Ruhinduka; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; adaptation to climate change; ambiguity; artefactual field experiment; behavioraleconomics; charcoal; credit; deforestation; endogenous switching regression; field experiment; guilt; honesty; impact evaluation; kindness; liquidity constraint; LPG stoves; rice marketing; risk preferences; system of rice intensification; Tanzania; time preferences;

    Abstract : Paper 1: Improving Welfare Through Climate-Friendly Agriculture: The Case of the System of Rice Intensification We use rich survey data to investigate the economic impact of a climate-friendly rice farming method known as the system of rice intensification (SRI) on the welfare of rain-dependent small-holder farmers in Tanzania. SRI reduces water consumption by half, which makes it a promising farming system in the adaptation to climate change in moisture constrained areas, and it does not require flooding of rice fields, resulting in reduced methane emissions. 2. 2. Driver Experience and Acceptance of Driver Support Systems - A Case of Speed Adaptation

    Author : Emeli Adell; Trafik och väg; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; speed support; ISA; driver support systems; Driver experiences; acceptance; UTAUT; ADAS; field trial;

    Abstract : Substantial research and development efforts are being made to add driver support systems to the arsenal of traffic safety measures. Obviously, the system cannot reduce fatalities and trauma until it is actually used. Hence, drivers’ experiences and acceptance of the system are of paramount importance. READ MORE

  3. 3. Boreal vegetation responses to forestry as reflected in field trial and survey data

    Author : Johan Bergstedt; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Logging; boreal forest; selective cutting; scarification; ground-layer flora; survey data;

    Abstract : This thesis had two objectives: the first objective was to evaluate the response of forest ground vegetation to selected forestry operations, i.e. cutting of different intensities and scarification; the second objective was to compare the use of survey data in vegetation research with that of more traditional research using field trials - i.e. READ MORE

  4. 4. Non-Linear Canonical Methods in Strongly Correlated Electron Systems

    Author : Matteo Bazzanella; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Majorana fermions; Emergent Majorana fermions; Non-linear transformation; canonical transformation; Kondo lattice; Mott insulator; Mean-field; Path-integral;

    Abstract : In this thesis some new ideas to perform the analysis of Strongly Correlated Electronic Systems (SCES) are developed. In particular the use of non-linear canonical transformations is considered thoroughly. READ MORE

  5. 5. Above Ground Durability of Swedish Softwood

    Author : Åsa Blom; Mikael Bergström; Thomas Thörnqvist; Birger Eikenes; Växjö universitet; []
    Keywords : above ground; durability; field test; mass loss; Mycologg; Norway spruce; permeability; Picea abies; Pinus sylvestris; Scots pine; FORESTRY; AGRICULTURAL SCIENCES and LANDSCAPE PLANNING; SKOGS- och JORDBRUKSVETENSKAP samt LANDSKAPSPLANERING;

    Abstract : This thesis describes aspects of durability of Swedish softwood in above ground applications. The thesis consists of a summary of nine papers, which all aim to explain the existing variation in above ground microbial durability and moisture sensitivity of Norway spruce (Picea abies) and Scots pine (Pinus sylvestris).
