  1. 1. Cytoskeletal filament systems : assembly, regulation, and interplay in mammalian cells

    Author : Mikael E Sellin; Martin Gullberg; Jeremy Thorner; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; cell research; cellforskning;

    Abstract : The cell represents the basic unit of structure and function for all life. The interior of a eukaryotic cell is organized by an extensive array of protein filaments – collectively referred to as the cytoskeleton. These filaments serve diverse essential functions, e.g. READ MORE

  2. 2. Filament assembly and structural studies of intermediate filament like protein, FilP, in Streptomyces coelicolor

    Author : Ala Javadi; Linda Sandblad; Martin Thanbichler; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Cytoskeleton; Intermediate filament-like; FilP; Streptomyces coelicolor; filament assembly; cryoelectron tomography; single particle analysis; crystallography; cellulose affinity;

    Abstract : The cytoskeleton, known as intracellular connected filaments, has a prominent role in cellular behavior, motility, and stability. The following three major types of polymers have been characterized as cytoskeleton in eukaryotes: microtubules that are 25 nm in diameter, actin filaments that are 7 nm in diameter, and intermediate filaments (IF) that are 10 nm in diameter. 3. 3. The Actin Filament System : Its Involvement in Cell Migration and Neurotransmitter Release

    Author : Anna-Karin Johnsson; Roger Karlsson; Stéphane Gasman; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Actin; Profilin; Synaptotagmin; Cell biology; Cellbiologi; Cell Biology; cellbiologi;

    Abstract : The microfilament system consists of actin filaments as the major component and is regulated by a number of actin binding proteins. It is juxtaposed to the plasma membrane where it forms a dense cortical weave from where it pervades into the cell interior. READ MORE

  4. 4. Shells and filament in flows

    Author : Vipin Agrawal; Dhrubaditya Mitra; Supriya Krishnamurthy; Gerhard Gompper; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Chaos; Elastic filaments; Shells; Exosomes; Stokes flow; Theoretical Physics; teoretisk fysik;

    Abstract : The motivation to study elastic structures such as filaments and shells stemmed from its application in the construction of tall buildings, bridges etc. Interest in this field has rekindled in the past decades due to growing interest in understanding biological materials and because of possible applications in nanoscience and medicine. 5. 5. A Gill Filament EROD Assay : Development and Application in Environmental Monitoring

    Author : Maria Jönsson; Ingvar Brandt; Björn Brunström; Kristian Ingebrigtsen; Håkan Olsén; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Biology; aquatic; benzo[a]pyrene; biomarker; CYP1A; environmental monitoring; EROD; fish; gill; indigo; PCB; Biologi; Biology; Biologi;

    Abstract : A gill filament-based assay for the cytochrome P450 1A (CYP1A)-catalysed activity ethoxyresorufin O-deethylase (EROD) was developed in rainbow trout (Oncorhynchus mykiss) and applied to Atlantic salmon (Salmo salar), Arctic charr (Salvelinus alpinus), Atlantic cod (Gadus morhua), saithe (Pollachius virens), and spotted wolffish (Anarhichas minor). Exposure to waterborne β-naphthoflavone (βNF; 10-6 M) induced branchial EROD activity in all species but the spotted wolffish. READ MORE
