  1. 1. Finite Element Modelling of Fluid-Structure Interaction

    Author : Göran Sandberg; Byggnadsmekanik; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Finite Element Method; Coupled problem; fluid-structure interaction; Transient; Acoustics; Caviation; Time Stepping; Symmetric; Nonlinear acoustics; Submerged structures; finite element method; Coupled problem; Fluid-structure interaction; Transient; Acoustics; Cavitation; Time Stepping; Symmetric; Nonlinear acoustics; Submerged structures;

    Abstract : The dynamic interaction between non-viscid, compressible fluid and an elastic structure is studied. Finte element formulations, using the weighted residual method, are derived. Different primary variables in the fluid domain are used and different source functions are considered. READ MORE

  2. 2. Finite element methods for surface problems

    Author : Mirza Cenanovic; Peter Hansbo; Kent Salomonsson; Paul Houston; Jönköping University; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; trace finite element method; membrane; mean curvature; level-set method;

    Abstract : The purpose of this thesis is to further develop numerical methods for solving surface problems by utilizing tangential calculus and the trace finite element method. Direct computation on the surface is possible by the use of tangential calculus, in contrast to the classical approach of mapping 2D parametric surfaces to 3D surfaces by means of differential geometry operators. 3. 3. Finite element procedures for virtual tribology

    Author : Bertil Nilsson; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Tribology; Reynolds equation; Stokes equation; cavitation; FEM; adaptivity; variational inequality; penalty formulation; error estima- tion; residual; duality.;

    Abstract : The main purpose of this thesis is to use modern goal-oriented adap- tive finite element techniques in order to improve the numerical simulation of tribology. Two novel adaptive finite element methods for the Reynolds thin film model, and Stokes model including cavitation are presented and their different strategies are compared. READ MORE

  4. 4. Constitutive models based on dislocation density : formulation and implementation into finite element codes

    Author : Konstantin Domkin; Luleå tekniska universitet; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Datorstödd maskinkonstruktion; Computer Aided Design;

    Abstract : Correct description of the material behaviour is an extra challenge in simulation of the materials processing and manufacturing processes such as metal forming. Material models must account for varying strain, strain rate and temperature, and changing microstructure. READ MORE

  5. 5. Linear and Non-Linear Analysis of Plates and Shells by Use of Morley Finite Elements

    Author : Ulrika Wendt; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; explicit dynamic formulation; adaptive methods; Shells Morley element; plates; Germain-Kirchhoff plate theory; finite element method; mixed plate formulation;

    Abstract : The thesis deals with plate bending analysis and shell analysis in static linear and dynamic non-linear situations. The thesis contains two parts. In common for them is the use of the Germain-Kirchhoff plate theory, constant strain, constant curvature triangular plate elements and adaptive improvement of original solution. READ MORE
