  1. 1. High Order Finite Difference Methods in Space and Time

    Author : Wendy Kress; Bertil Gustafsson; Gerald Warnecke; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; finite difference methods; Navier-Stokes equations; high order time discretization; deferred correction; stability; Numerical Analysis; Numerisk analys;

    Abstract : In this thesis, high order accurate discretization schemes for partial differential equations are investigated. In the first paper, the linearized two-dimensional Navier-Stokes equations are considered. READ MORE

  2. 2. Higher order finite difference methods for wave propagation problems

    Author : Eva Mossberg; Bertil Gustafsson; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Numerical Analysis; Numerisk analys;

    Abstract : Wave propagation is described by the wave equation, or in the time-periodic case, by the Helmholtz equation. For problems with small wavelengths, high order discretizations must be used to resolve the solution. Two different techniques for finding compact finite difference schemes of high order are studied and compared. READ MORE

  4. 4. Broadband Electromagnetic Scattering and Shielding Analysis using the Finite-Difference Time-Domain Method

    Author : Torleif Martin; Anders Bondeson; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY;

    Abstract : This thesis deals with numerical simulations of Maxwell's equations using the Finite-Difference Time-Domain (FDTD) method. The method is widely used in scattering, antenna and electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) applications. READ MORE

  5. 5. Analysis of boundary and interface closures for finite difference methods for the wave equation

    Author : Siyang Wang; Gunilla Kreiss; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Scientific Computing; Beräkningsvetenskap;

    Abstract : We consider high order finite difference methods for the wave equations in the second order form, where the finite difference operators satisfy the summation-by-parts principle. Boundary conditions and interface conditions are imposed weakly by the simultaneous-approximation-term method, and non-conforming grid interfaces are handled by an interface operator that is based on either interpolating directly between the grids or on projecting to piecewise continuous polynomials on an intermediate grid.
