  1. 1. Fires in Narrow Construction Cavities : Fire Dynamics and Material Fire Performance

    Author : Karlis Livkiss; Avdelningen för Brandteknik; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Fire; Ventilated façade; flame height; Stone wool; expanded polystyrene; Fire Dynamics Simulator FDS ;

    Abstract : There have recently been devastating fire incidents related to fire spread over ventilated façades. These incidents indicate gaps in our understanding of the fire behaviour of façades. This thesis takes a bottom-up approach to investigating fire behaviour in materials and elements associated with narrow cavities in modern constructions. READ MORE

  2. 2. Thermal boundary conditions based on field modeling of fires : Heat transfer calculations in CFD and FE models with special regards to fire exposure represented with adiabatic surface temperatures

    Author : Joakim Sandström; Stephen Welch; Luleå tekniska universitet; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Steel Structures; Stålbyggnad;

    Abstract : Combining computer fluid dynamic, CFD, models with finite element, FE, models to calculate temperature in fire exposed structures can reduce design temperatures in structures while still obtaining the level of structural fire safety stipulated by society. A better understanding of heat transfer and the concept of adiabatic surface temperatures, AST, the transition of data between models can be simplified and more accurate temperature predictions can be made. 3. 3. Numerical modeling of the coupled feedback between pool fires and their environment

    Author : Jonathan Wahlqvist; Avdelningen för Brandteknik; []
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : Computational fluid dynamics (CFD) is often used within performance based fire safety engineering and its use has increased as available computational power has increased. However, there is still a need to improve CFD modeling to push it beyond its current usage limitations. READ MORE
