  1. 6. Safety in Case of Fire - The Effect of Changing Regulations

    Author : Johan Lundin; Avdelningen för Brandteknik; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Technological sciences; verification; risk analysis; uncertainty; prescriptive; risk control; building regulation; Performance-based; fire safety engineering; Teknik; Building construction; Byggnadsteknik;

    Abstract : In this doctoral thesis some fundamental problems concerning society's ability to control the safety in buildings in the case of fire by issuing performance-based building regulations are identified and analysed. Fire protection documentation from forty-six projects was studied, together with a detailed analysis of the Swedish building regulations and an extensive risk analysis of a class of buildings. 2. 7. Thin-walled steel studs in fire : analysis and design recommendations

    Author : Peter Karlström; Luleå tekniska universitet; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Steel Structures; Stålbyggnad;

    Abstract : Development of steel frame modular buildings is gaining increased popularity and support throughout Europe. Due to flexibility in construction and good long-term performance, lightweight steel frame structures are often preferred solutions, for instance in partitions and suspended ceilings as well as for load-bearing elements. 3. 8. Experimental measurements of water mist systems and implications for modelling in CFD

    Author : Bjarne Husted; Avdelningen för Brandteknik; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Teknik; Technological sciences; fire suppression; CFD; FDS; fire safety engineering; PDA; water mist; PIV;

    Abstract : The use of water mist for fire extinguishment has increased rapidly in recent years. The main reason is the abandonment of halon-based extinguishing systems in favour of environmentally friendlier systems. Furthermore the use of water mist systems has spread from mainly marine applications to also include the protection of buildings. READ MORE

  4. 9. Restrained behaviour of beams in steel frames exposed to fire

    Author : Naveed Iqbal; Aldina Santiago; Luleå tekniska universitet; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Steel Structures; Stålbyggnad;

    Abstract : The current design procedures prescribed by the codes for design of steel beams at elevated temperatures require that the ultimate flexural resistance of the beam should be checked against the applied loading. This approach does not take into account the redistribution of bending moment due to fire exposure that takes place in a redundant frame. READ MORE

  5. 10. Analysis of Catenary Effect in Steel Beams and Trusses Exposed to Fire

    Author : Naveed Iqbal; Paulo Vila Real; Luleå tekniska universitet; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Steel Structures; Stålbyggnad;

    Abstract : The goals of structural design are fundamentally different when designing structures at normal temperature or when designing them in a fire situation. While structures are primarily designed for normal temperature situations considering the different design limit states, in the fire design situation, however, the already designed structure is assessed for its resistance in the fire design limit state.
