  1. 1. Climatology and firn processes in the lower accumulation area of the Greenland ice sheet

    Author : Charalampos Charalampidis; Veijo Pohjola; Dirk van As; Rickard Pettersson; Douglas Benn; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; climate change; Greenland ice sheet; accumulation area; automatic weather stations; surface energy balance; melt–albedo feedback; surface mass budget; snow; firn; meltwater; percolation; refreezing; runoff;

    Abstract : The Greenland ice sheet is the largest Northern Hemisphere store of fresh water, and it is responding rapidly to the warming climate. In situ observations document the changing ice sheet properties in the lower accumulation area, Southwest Greenland. READ MORE

  2. 2. Subsurface fluxes of mass and energy at the accumulation zone of Lomonosovfonna ice cap, Svalbard

    Author : Sergey Marchenko; Veijo Pohjola; Rickard Pettersson; Carleen Reijmer; Thomas Schuler; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; glacier; ice sheet; sea level; runoff; ice; firn; snow; stratigraphy; density; core; radar; thermistor; temperature; preferential water flow; thermal conductivity; water content; Geovetenskap med inriktning mot naturgeografi; Earth Science with specialization in Physical Geography;

    Abstract : Glaciers cover ca 10% of the Earth's land and are found in the high altitudes and latitudes. They are important components of environmental systems due to the multiple feedbacks linking them with the atmosphere, hydrosphere and periglacial landscapes. READ MORE

  3. 3. Hydrological processes in firn on Storglaciären, Sweden

    Author : Thomas Schneider; Andrew G. Fountain; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; Geography; Physical Geography; geografi med naturgeografisk inriktning;

    Abstract : Understanding hydrological processes in temperate glaciers is important for both scientific and practical issues. Modelling glacier response to climatic change and the use of water from glaciers for electric power generation are some topics that require detailed information on water storage and drainage in glaciers. Author : Elisabeth Isaksson; []

    Abstract : .... READ MORE

  5. 5. Haloacetates in precipitation

    Author : Lena von Sydow; Linköpings universitet; []

    Abstract : Haloacetates are a group of fluorinated, chlorinated and brominated organic compounds that pose a potential threat to the environment, because they are present in relatively high concentrations in precipitation and they are toxic to plants. At the time the research described in this thesis was begun, it had been suggested that atmospheric degradation of chlorinated solvents and CFC replacements were responsible for the presence of haloacetates in precipitation in populous regions.
