  1. 1. Freshwater methane and carbon dioxide fluxes : Spatio-temporal variability and an integrated assessment of lake and stream emissions in a catchment

    Author : Sivakiruthika Natchimuthu; David Bastviken; Åsa Danielsson; Peter A. Raymond; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; Lakes; streams; spatio-temporal variability; CH4 flux; CO2 flux; gas transfer velocity; Sjöar; vattendrag; rumsliga och tidsmässiga variationer; CH4-flöden; CO2-flöden; gasutbyteshastighet;

    Abstract : Freshwater bodies such as lakes and streams release the greenhouse gases methane (CH4) and carbon dioxide (CO2) into the atmosphere. Global freshwater CH4 and CO2 emissions have been estimated to be of a similar magnitude to the global land or ocean carbon sink, and are thus significant components of global carbon budgets. 2. 2. Particle Methods for Modelling Granular Material Flow

    Author : Simon Larsson; Pär Jonsén; Hans-Åke Häggblad; Gustaf Gustafsson; Eugenio Oñate; Luleå tekniska universitet; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Hållfasthetslära; Solid Mechanics;

    Abstract : Granular materials are very abundant in nature and are often used in industry, wherethe dynamics of granular material ow is of relevance in many processes. There arestrong economic and environmental incentives for increased eciency in handling andtransporting granular materials. READ MORE

  3. 3. Silicon cycling in the Baltic Sea : Trends and budget of dissolved silica

    Author : Liana Papush; Åsa Danielsson; Lars Rahm; Petra Tallberg; Linköpings universitet; []

    Abstract : The dissolved silicon (DSi) has a crucial role for growth of a large group of primary producers – diatoms and, hence, impact on functioning of the aquatic food web. This thesis contributes to an increased understanding of the modifications of the DSi cycling in the Baltic Sea. READ MORE

  4. 4. Experiments on biofilm formation and growth in laminar flows

    Author : Cornelius Wittig; Shervin Bagheri; Thomas Crouzier; Wouter van der Wijngaart; Eleonora Secchi; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; biofilm; streamers; wall shear stress; OCT; Teknisk mekanik; Engineering Mechanics;

    Abstract : The interaction between fluid dynamics and biofilm growth plays a key role in both medical and industrial applications. Biofilms, or bacteria that are embedded in a protective matrix of extracellular polymeric substances, settle on interfaces such as on implanted devices or ship hulls. READ MORE

  5. 5. Uncertainty quantification for time varying quantities in turbulent flows

    Author : Donnatella Xavier; Philipp Schlatter; Saleh Rezaeiravesh; Ricardo Vinuesa; David Moxey; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; uncertainty; variance estimator; autoregressive models; turbulence; computational fluid dynamics; Teknisk mekanik; Engineering Mechanics;

    Abstract : Quantification of uncertainty in results is crucial in both experiments and simulations of turbulence, yet this practice is notably underutilized. This thesis project delves into statistical tools within the framework of uncertainty quantification to systematically quantify uncertainties that occur in the time varying quantities of turbulence.
