6. The role of Landau-Darrieus instability in flame dynamics and deflagration-to-detonation transition
Abstract : The role of intrinsic hydrodynamic instability of the premixed flame (known as Landau-Darrieus instability) in various flame phenomena is studied by means of direct numerical simulations of the complete system of hydrodynamic equations. Rigorous study of flame dynamics and effect of Landau-Darrieus instability is essential for all premixed combustion problems where multidimensional effects cannot be disregarded. READ MORE

7. Occupational exposure to brominated flame retardants : With emphasis on polybrominated diphenyl ethers
Abstract : Brominated flame retardants (BFRs) are a diverse group of chemicals, which are used to slow down or inhibit the development of fires. BFRs are incorporated into a wide range of consumer products that are considered as potential fire hazards, such as TV-sets, household appliances, computers, and textiles. READ MORE

8. Neurotoxic Effects of Nicotine During Neonatal Brain Development : Critical Period and Adult Susceptibility
Abstract : This thesis examined neurotoxic effects of nicotine exposure during a defined critical period of neonatal brain development in mice.In our environment there are numerous hazardous contaminants that an individual can be exposed to during its entire lifetime. READ MORE

9. Phosphorylated Cellulose Nanofibrils : A Nano-Tool for Preparing Cellulose-Based Flame-Retardant Materials
Abstract : The growing awareness of the need for a circular society and a circular chemistry has spurred the interest in using wood-based cellulose as a raw material for the preparation of new macroscopic devices and construction materials. The interest has been particularly focused on cellulose nanofibrils (CNF), which has led to the development of new material concepts through a nanoscale bottom-up engineering using renewable CNF. 10. Development of dual-broadband rotational CARS for applied flame diagnostics
Abstract : The thesis work involved the further development of the dual-broadband rotational coherent anti-Stokes Raman spectroscopy (DB-RCARS) approach to applied flame diagnostics. This included the development of new experimental approaches, of new theoretical rotational CARS models, and of new evaluation routines as well as exploration of the potential of DB-RCARS to provide reliable thermometric measurements and measurements of concentration under a variety of conditions common in combustion research.
