  1. 21. THE EFFECTS OF VARIOUS NOZZLE HOLE CONFIGURATIONS ON DIESEL ENGINE PERFORMANCE

    Author : Andreas Matsson; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Diesel engine combustion non-circular nozzle hole cavitation hydrogrinding optical study flame wall interaction;

    Abstract : Any improvement that can be done with the diesel engine to reduce emissions and fuel consumption is of importance. The aim of the studies presented in this thesis was to determine whether changes in the nozzle geometry of the fuel injection systems used in diesel engines might improve their emissions and fuel consumption. 2. 22. Dynamics of curved flames in compressible flows

    Author : Oleg Travnikov; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Physics; Fysik; Physics; Fysik; fysik; Physics;

    Abstract : Influence of flow compressibility on propagation and stability of premixed laminar flames in gaseous combustible mixtures has been investigated. A linear analysis of the intrinsic hydrodynamical instability of a planar flame front has shown that the instability growth rate is very sensitive to the compressibility effects and can increase significantly even for rather small Mach numbers of the flame generated flow. 3. 23. Combustion characteristics of some alternative fuels in ICE: : a detailed numerical study

    Author : Siyuan Hu; Strömningsteknik; []
    Keywords : Combustion; duel fuel; methane; hydrogen; nheptane; methanol; DNS; simulation; openFoam; mixture-averaged; RCCI; ignition wave;

    Abstract : Two major fuels commonly used in compression ignition (CI) and spark ignition (SI) enginesare diesel and gasoline. The reserve of diesel and gasoline is limited, however the combustion ofthese fuels giving rise to air pollution. READ MORE

  4. 24. Large Eddy Simulation of Turbulent Premixed and Partially Premixed Combustion

    Author : Eric Baudoin; Strömningsteknik; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY;

    Abstract : In this thesis, a computational fluid dynamics (CFD) approach is used to study turbulent premixed and partially premixed combustion. The CFD approach is based on large eddy simulation (LES) in which the large-scale structures of the flow are resolved on a grid, leaving only the small-scale structures (subgrid scales) to be modeled. 5. 25. Characterization of an Electrical Sensor for Combustion Diagnostics

    Author : Axel Franke; Förbränningsfysik; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; ion sensor; combustion; nitric oxide; chemi-ionization; equilibrium; Physics; ionized gases; Fysicumarkivet A:2002:Franke; ionization sensor; Fysik;

    Abstract : The ionization sensor is an electrical probe for diagnostics in internal combustion engines. The combustion process affects the electrical properties of the gas in the cylinder. Thus the sensor signal contains copious information about the conditions in the combustion chamber. READ MORE
