  1. 1. Numerical study of flame dynamics

    Author : Arkady Petchenko; Vitaly Bychkov; Leonid Kagan; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; combustion; Direct Numerical Simulation DNS ; turbulence; flame-vortex interaction; flame acceleration; flame-acoustic interaction; Physics; Fysik;

    Abstract : Modern industrial society is based on combustion with ever increasing standards on the efficiency of burning. One of the main combustion characteristics is the burning rate, which is influenced by intrinsic flame instabilities, external turbulence and flame interaction with walls of combustor and sound waves. 2. 2. Flame Dynamics and Deflagration-to-Detonation Transition

    Author : Damir Valiev; Börje Johansson; R. J. M. (Rob) Bastiaans; KTH; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; flame; premixed; instability; fractal; deflagration; detonation; DDT; simulation; Physics; Fysik;

    Abstract : Various premixed flame phenomena are studied by means of direct numerical simulations of the complete system of hydrodynamic equations. Rigorous study of flame dynamics is essential for all premixed combustion problems where multidimensional effects cannot be disregarded.The present thesis consists of six parts. READ MORE

  3. 3. Experimental and Numerical Investigations of Flames Stabilized by Swirl Flow and Bluff-body:Flame Structures and Flame Instabilities

    Author : Yiheng Tong; Kraftverksteknik; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Flame structures; Flame instabilities; Blowout limits; Flashback; Swirl Flow; Bluff-body; Chemiluminescence; PIV;

    Abstract : Combustion and its control are essential to our existence on this planet since we knew it. Nowadays, the largest share of the world’s electricity and most of our transportation systems are powered by combustion. In addition, industrial processes also rely heavily upon combustion. 4. 4. Theoretical and Experimental Investigations of Nonlinear Flame Instability

    Author : Li-Zheng Ma; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; nonlinear hydrodynamic instability; flame propagation and stretch effects; shock induced flame instability; tulip flame formation; interface tracking; the Schlieren technique; level set approach;

    Abstract : Flame instability is both important and difficult to understand. Mechanisms of instability are complex, because instability often involves an interaction between several different physical phenomena, such as an unsteady chemical reaction, unsteady flame propagation generating an unsteady flow, acoustic waves or shock waves. 5. 5. Modelling effects of flame development on stationary and oscillating premixed turbulent combustion

    Author : Pratap Sathiah; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; flame development; Keywords: Premixed turbulent flame; Flame Speed Closure model;

    Abstract : The vast majority of contemporary models of premixed turbulent flames applied to multi-dimensional RANS numerical simulations of combustion in gas turbine engines and aero-engine afterburners focus on fully-developed flames, characterized by fully-developed turbulent diffusivity, thickness, and burning velocity. However, abundant experimental data obtained from statistically stationary premixed flames clearly show that a typical turbulent flame develops as it is convected by mean flow from a stabilization zone.
