  1. 1. Human response to wind turbine noise : perception, annoyance and moderating factors

    Author : Eja Pedersen; Sten Ljunggren; Högskolan i Halmstad; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; Noise; Environmental exposure; Wind; Audio-visual interaction; Low-level noise exposure; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; wind turbines; noise annoyance; sound perception; audio-visual interaction; low-level noise exposure;

    Abstract : Aims: The aims of this thesis were to describe and gain an understanding of how people who live in the vicinity of wind turbines are affected by wind turbine noise, and how individual, situational and visual factors, as well as sound properties, moderate the response.Methods: A cross-sectional study was carried out in a flat, mainly rural area in Sweden, with the objective to estimate the prevalence of noise annoyance and to examine the dose-response relationship between A-weighted sound pressure levels (SPLs) and perception of and annoyance with wind turbine noise. 2. 2. Inflammation and cortisol response in coronary artery disease

    Author : Johnny Nijm; Lena Jonasson; Eva Särendahl; Per Tornvall; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Coronary artery disease; Cardiology; Kardiologi; Internal medicine; Invärtesmedicin;

    Abstract : Atherosclerosis is characterized by a chronic inflammation, involving autoimmune components, in the arterial wall. An increase in proinflammatory activity relative to anti-inflammatory activity is considered to cause a progression of the disease towards plaque instability and risk of atherothrombotic events, such as acute coronary syndrome (ACS). 3. 3. High Voltage Insulation Diagnostics Utilizing HTS-SQUID Based Amplifiers

    Author : Thomas Eriksson; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; dielectric response; current amplifier; partial discharge; Rogowski sensor; SQUID; voltage amplifier;

    Abstract : In the design and development of high voltage insulation systems, different diagnostic methods are often used for system characterization. It is therefore crucial to continuously improve existing methods and to develop new ones. READ MORE

  4. 4. Silicon carbide field-effect devices studied as gas sensors for exhaust gas monitoring

    Author : Peter Tobias; Ignaz Eisele; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; silicon carbide; high temperature; gas sensors; field effect devices; MISdevices; Schottky diodes; experimental design; reaction kinetics; mass transport; car exhaust; multipoint injection; response times; cylinder specific; on-board diagnosis;

    Abstract : Metal-insulator-silicon carbide (MIS) structures have been studied as gas sensors. We have investigated how the sensors detect gases, how fast they do that, and how they could be used for exhaust gas monitoring.We have prepared simple field-effect devices, MIS-capacitors and Schottky diodes, on silicon carbide with platinum gates. 5. 5. Out-of-Round Railway Wheels - Causes and Consequences An Investigation Including Field Tests, Out-of-Roundness Measurements and Numerical Simulations

    Author : Anders Johansson; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; polygonalization; wheel flat; full-scale measurements; wear modelling; impact load detector; railway wheel out-of-roundness; wheel removal criterion; dynamic train-track interaction; corrugation;

    Abstract : Causes and consequences of out-of-round railway wheels are investigated through literature studies, full-scale field experiments, out-of-roundness measurements, and numerical simulations. Both defects around the complete wheel circumference (e.g. polygonal wheels with wavelengths up to one wheel circumference) and local defects (e. READ MORE
