  1. 1. On Subscale Flight Testing : Applications in Aircraft Conceptual Design

    Author : Alejandro Sobron; Petter Krus; David Lundström; Zdobyslaw Goraj; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY;

    Abstract : Downscaled physical models, also referred to as subscale models, have played an essential role in the investigation of the complex physics of flight until the recent disruption of numerical simulation. Despite the fact that improvements in computational methods are slowly pushing experimental techniques towards a secondary role as verification or calibration tools, real-world testing of physical prototypes still provides an unmatched confidence. 3. 3. Flight Control Design Using Backstepping

    Author : Ola Härkegård; Torkel Glad; Karin Ståhl Gunnarsson; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY;

    Abstract : Aircraft flight control design is traditionally based on linear control theory, due to the existing wealth of tools for linear design and analysis. However, in order to achieve tactical advantages, modern fighter aircraft strive towards performing maneuvers outside the region where the dynamics of flight are linear, and the need for nonlinear tools arises. 4. 4. Simulator-Based Design : Methodology and vehicle display application

    Author : Torbjörn Alm; Kjell Ohlsson; Martin Helander; Peter Hancock; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Simulator-Based Design SBD ; Human-in-the-loop simulators; Virtual prototyping; In-vehicle systems; Human-machine interaction HMI ; 3D situation displays; Adaptive interfaces; Work sciences and ergonomics; Arbetsvetenskap och ergonomi;

    Abstract : Human-in-the-loop simulators have long been used in the research community as well as in industry. The aviation field has been the pioneers in the use of simulators for design purposes. In contrast, corresponding activities in the automotive area have been less widespread. READ MORE

  5. 5. Quasi-analytical Modelling and Optimisation Techniques for Transport Aircraft Design

    Author : Askin T. Isikveren; KTH; []
    Keywords : aircraft; conceptual; design; specifications; atmosphere; geometry; weight; aerodyanmics; propulsion; operational performance; stability and control; constrained multi-objective optimisation; computer aided design; regional; business; high-transonic; ;

    Abstract : The research work presented here focuses on the subject oftransport aircraft design at the pre-design or conceptuallevel. The primary topics addressed are: (1) generation of avast array of new quasi-analytical expressions to permit aconceptual treatment of commercial and business transportaircraft with adequate sensitivity for more advanced tradestudies; (2) review and adoption of a method to predictstability and control characteristics (using the Mitchellmethod); (3) a study of the relative merits between variousmethods in facilitating an expedient and robust constrainedmulti-objective optimisation result within the context oftraditional conceptual design problems (Genetic Algorithms andNelder-Mead Simplex search); (4) creation of a software packageas a new and unique conceptual tool that permits the generationof design proposals in an accurate yet expeditious manner; and,(5) practical demonstration of the new conceptual designsoftware package by undertaking some actual aircraft designproposals.
