1. Properties of Activated Sludge Flocs
Abstract : The quality of the effluent from activated sludge treatment plants is highly dependent on the efficiency of the solid-liquid separation process. The aim of this thesis was to study (i) the effects of dissolved oxygen (DO) concentration on effluent turbidity and flocculation, as well as on the settling properties of activated sludge, for both short term and long term scales, and (ii) the influence of aerobic microbial activity on the stability of activated sludge flocs. 2. Flocculation with Polyelectrolytes in Latex and Microbial Systems
Abstract : Adsorption of cationic polyelectrolytes onto polystyrene latices was studied as function of polymer chemical composition and molecular weight, polymer and surface charge density and ionic strength. The ratio between polymer charges and surface charges was close to one when distances between polymer and surface charges were equal. READ MORE

3. Disperson and Flocculation in a Dry Mat-Forming Process
Abstract : The absorption cores in disposable nappies, incontinence pads and female hygiene products are manufactured by a dry mat-forming process. Cellulose fibers and super-absorbing particles are suspended in air and blown onto a forming wheel on which the cores are formed. READ MORE

4. Water and alkali salts in the hydrating and hardened green cement-based materials: Hydration process, moisture content and transport
Abstract : Reducing CO2 emissions in the production of cementitious binder is the most effective way to decrease the environmental impact of the construction industry, so a large amount of supplementary cementitious materials (SCMs) has been used in the green concrete. Both the SCMs and alkali salts in binders influence the hydration process and the structure in hardened cement-based materials. READ MORE

5. The effect of environment on refining efficiency of kraft pulps
Abstract : Although the pulp and paper mill processes have been operational for long time there is still a need to understand the unit operations in paper making and how they interact with the ingoing pulp material. This is crucial in order to fully utilize the potential of the wood as well as of the unit operations. READ MORE
