1. Interaction of Hurricanes and Natural Coastal Features: Implications for Storm Damage Reduction
Abstract : It is generally acknowledged that wetlands and barrier islands can reduce surge and waves. However, while a general qualitative understanding of these interactions is available in the scientific literature, quantification of these interactions is lacking and has previously been based on limited data of relatively poor quality. 2. CARESCAPE OF BLUE-GREEN SOLUTIONS IN EVERYDAY LIFE : Exploring the socio-materiality of a landscape technology
Abstract : This research explores how blue-green solutions (BGS) take part in various everyday situations in the Augustenborg neighborhood of Malmö, Sweden, where BGS were introduced over twenty years ago to control urban flooding. The research applies a relational perspective, looking at everyday life as something that is contextually formed and given meaning in relation to the socio-materiality of the environment. READ MORE

3. Impacts of climate oscillation on precipitation and river flows of small scale river basins in Eastern Northeast Brazil
Abstract : The Northeast region of Brazil is one of the most susceptible parts of the country to the effects of climate variability leading to severe droughts or extreme floods. Indeed, drought is a major issue due to a large semiarid area that covers 53% of the region, which determines the main climate characteristics of this region. READ MORE

4. Managing knowledge sharing of extreme weather induced impacts on land transport infrastructure : Case study of the Swedish Transport Administration
Abstract : Extreme weather events and effects of climate change are threats to the transport sector’s functionality and safety. Risk management in this context implies a necessity to focus on the connection between near-term experiences and coping strategies on one hand, and long-term adaptation analyses on the other. 5. The hidden landscape : on fine-scale green structure and its role regulating ecosystem services in the urban environment
Abstract : The thesis investigates and highlights the role of fine scale green structure in the urban landscape with regards to the regulating ecosystem services of runoff mitigation, wind speed regulation and modification to mean radiant temperatures. The analysis was based on case studies in southern Sweden, projecting from a flooding incident in the Höjeå river catchment in 2007 and the current seafront development of Lomma Harbour and similar schemes in the Öresund region.
