  1. 1. Life Cycle Assessment of Building Products. Case Studies and Methodology

    Author : Åsa Jönsson; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; VOCs; environmental assessment; floorings; methods; LCA; concrete; indoor climate; Life Cycle Assessment; structural frames; building materials; steel; tools;

    Abstract : The main objectives of this thesis were to demonstrate how Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) may be applied to building products, to describe what methodological LCA issues are specific to building products, to work out solutions to some of these issues and to relate LCA to other environmental assessment methods that may be applied to building products. First, in a literature study, the state of the art in the field of environmental assessment of building products is described, and the five articles constituting the thesis are put into context. 2. 2. Secondary Emissions from Concrete Floors with Bonded Flooring Materials - Effects of Alkaline Hydrolysis and Stored Decomposition Products

    Author : Anders Sjöberg; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; VOC; floorings; decomposition products; concrete; secondary emission; OCIC; moisture; IAQ; adhesive; building materials;

    Abstract : It has been demonstrated before that the presence of VOC lowers the quality of indoor air. There are also several indications that certain organic compounds in indoor air (OCIA) can give rise to sick building syndrome (SBS). READ MORE

  3. 3. Moisture properties of self-levelling flooring compounds

    Author : Anders Anderberg; Avdelningen för Byggnadsmaterial; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; fukttransport; secondary emissions; SLC; alkali; self-levelling; moisture transport; diffusion coefficient; självnivellerande golv; flooring screed; fuktegenskaper; flooring compound; sorption isotherm;

    Abstract : Self-levelling flooring compounds (SLC) are used to level substrates (mainly concrete slabs) before applying final floor coverings. Although it is an extensively used product, only limited research has so far been published concerning their moisture properties. READ MORE

  4. 4. Phthalates: A Full Chain Story : Connecting phthalate sources, indoor dust, human intake, and airway symptoms in children

    Author : Anna-Sofia Preece; Carl-Gustav Bornehag; Malin Knutz; Huan Shu; Bruce Lanphear; Karlstads universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; children s health; endocrine disruption; exposure pathways; full chain model; human exposure; plasticizers; pregnancy; PVC; respiratory; SELMA study; Public Health Science; Folkhälsovetenskap;

    Abstract : Phthalates are widely used in a large number of consumer goods and building materials from which they can leach and contaminate the environment such as indoor dust and air. It is unclear how phthalate sources in our homes and indoor dust contribute to human intake and airway symptoms in children. READ MORE
