  1. 1. Nonlinear Identification and Control with Solar Energy Applications

    Author : Linda Brus; Bengt Carlsson; Torbjörn Wigren; Graham C. Goodwin; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; feedforward control; model predictive control; nonlinear control; nonlinear systems; recursive identification; solar power; system identification; time delay systems; Automatic control; Reglerteknik; Reglerteknik; Automatic Control;

    Abstract : Nonlinear systems occur in industrial processes, economical systems, biotechnology and in many other areas. The thesis treats methods for system identification and control of such nonlinear systems, and applies the proposed methods to a solar heating/cooling plant. READ MORE

  3. 3. Turbulent Boundary Layer Separation and Control

    Author : Ola Lögdberg; P. Henrik Alfredsson; Jens Fransson; Guido Buresti; KTH; []
    Keywords : ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Flow control; adverse pressure gradient APG ; flow separation; vortex generators; jet vortex generators; pulsed jet vortex generators; Fluid mechanics; Strömningsmekanik;

    Abstract : Boundary layer separation is an unwanted phenomenon in most technical applications, as for instance on airplane wings, ground vehicles and in internal flow systems. If separation occurs, it causes loss of lift, higher drag and energy losses. It is thus essential to develop methods to eliminate or delay separation. READ MORE

  4. 4. Extremum Seeking Control : Stability, Accuracy, and Applications

    Author : Khalid Atta; Luleå tekniska universitet; []
    Keywords : ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Reglerteknik; Control Engineering;

    Abstract : In many applications, there is a variable that indicates the overall performance and that must be maximized, such as the output of a hydro power turbine or a mineral processing plant, or that must be minimized, such as CO2 emissions or the consumption of resources. Extremization of this variable (maximization or minimization) through adjusting the influencing manipulated variables is occasionally required without prior knowledge of the optimal values of the manipulated variables or of the optimized variable. 5. 5. Adaptive and model-based control in laminar boundary-layer flows

    Author : Nicolò Fabbiane; Dan S. Henningson; Aimee S. Morgans; KTH; []
    Keywords : ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Flow control; Control theory; Optimal control; Adaptive control; Boundary-layer flow; Fluid dynamics; Plasma actuator; Surface hot-wire; Transition delay;

    Abstract : In boundary-layer flows it is possible to reduce the friction drag by breaking the path from laminar to turbulent state. In low turbulence environments, the laminar-to-turbulent transition is dominated by local flow instabilities – Tollmien-Schlichting (TS) waves – that exponentially grows while being con- vected by the flow and, eventually, lead to transition.
