  1. 1. Experimental Study of Post-Dryout Heat Transferin Annuli with Flow Obstacles

    Author : Ionut Gheorghe Anghel; Henryk Anglart; Michele Andreani; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; annulus; post-dryout; temperature distribution; flow obstacles; new measurements; SRA - Energy; SRA - Energi;

    Abstract : An experimental study on post dryout heat transfer regime in annuli with flow obstacles was conducted in the High-pressure Water Test (HWAT) loop at the Royal Institute of Technology in Stockholm, Sweden. An annulus consisting of two concentric heated pipes (12.7x24.3) mm, with total heated length equal to 3650 mm was employed as a test section. READ MORE

  2. 2. Numerical study on flow and pollutant dispersion inside street canyons

    Author : Yang Yunkai; Martinac Ivo; Peng Shia-Hui; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Flow; Pollutant dispersion; CFD; Street canyon; Reliability; SRA - Energy; SRA - Energi;

    Abstract : This thesis analyzes the characteristics of flow pattern and vehicle-emitted pollutant dispersion in roughness surface layer. In an urban environment, wind flow and transported-pollutant source interfere strongly with buildings and other roughness elements on the surface ground, which results in complex characteristics of flow pattern and pollutant dispersion in 3D circumstances. 4. 4. Flow processing and gel formation for producing biopolymer drops with functional shapes and diffusion properties

    Author : Bernhard Walther; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; drop deformation; 4-roll mill; biopolymer; agarose; shear; Kappa-carrageenan; elongation; microstructure; flow processing; drop-shaping; rheology; poly ethyleneglycol ; diffusion; gelatine; NMR; gel formation; TEM; flow channel;

    Abstract : This thesis focuses on the development of novel processes which combine flow-induced drop deformation and simultaneous temperature-induced gel formation in order to create shaped biopolymer drops. The drops are functional in terms of rheology and diffusion properties, factors strongly influencing the consistency of food products and flavour or drug release. READ MORE

  5. 5. Go with the flow : visually mediated flight control in bumblebees

    Author : Nellie Linander; Funktionell zoologi; []
    Keywords : insect; vision; Bombus terrestris; flight control; optic flow; centring; flight speed; height; viewing angle; learning flight; Insect; vision; Bombus terrestris; flight control; optic flow; centring; flight speed; height; viewing angle; learning flight;

    Abstract : Despite their small brains and tiny eyes, flying insects are capable of detecting and avoiding collisions with moving obstacles, and with remarkable precision they navigate through environments of different complexity. For this thesis, I have investigated how bumblebees use the pattern of apparent image motion that is generated in their eyes as they move through the world (known as optic flow), in order to control flight.
