  1. 1. Blood flow specific assessment of ventricular function : Visualization and quantification using 4D flow CMR

    Author : Alexandru Grigorescu Fredriksson; Carljohan Carlhäll; Bengt Johansson; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES;

    Abstract : The spectrum of cardiovascular diseases is the leading cause of morbidity and mortality globally. Early assessment and treatment of these conditions, acquired as well as congenital, is therefore of paramount importance. The human heart has a great ability to adapt to various hemodynamic conditions by cardiac remodeling. 2. 2. Towards Personalized Models of the Cardiovascular System Using 4D Flow MRI

    Author : Belén Casas Garcia; Tino Ebbers; Jonas Lantz; Petter Dyverfeldt; Carljohan Carlhäll; Frans van de Vosse; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Magnetic resonance imaging; 4D Flow MRI; Computational modelling; Blood flow; Hemodynamics;

    Abstract : Current diagnostic tools for assessing cardiovascular disease mostly focus on measuring a given biomarker at a specific spatial location where an abnormality is suspected. However, as a result of the dynamic and complex nature of the cardiovascular system, the analysis of isolated biomarkers is generally not sufficient to characterize the pathological mechanisms behind a disease. 3. 3. Quantification of 4D Left Ventricular Blood Flow in Health and Disease

    Author : Jonatan Eriksson; Tino Ebbers; Carl-Johan Carlhäll; Gianni Pedrizzetti; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : MRI; relative pressure; 4D flow; quantification; turbulent kinetic energy; dilated cardiomyopathy; magnetic resonance imaging; physiology; cardiac function; diastolic dysfunction;

    Abstract : The main function of the heart is to pump blood throughout the cardiovascular system by generating pressure differences created through volume changes. Although the main purpose of the heart and vessels is to lead the flowing blood throughout the body, clinical assessments of cardiac function are usually based on morphology, approximating the flow features by viewing the motion of the myocardium and vessels. 4. 4. Hydronephrosis in childhood : An experimental and clinical study

    Author : Nils Wåhlin; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Surgery; Hydronephrosis; experimental ureteral obstruction; tubuloglomerular feedback; renal blood flow; vasoactivre substances; pressure flow measurement; Kirurgi; Surgery; Kirurgi; kirurgi; särskilt barnkirurgi; Pediatric Surgery;

    Abstract : In this thesis the pathophysiology of hydronephrosis due to ureteropelvic junction (UPJ) obstruction was studied. The kidney adapts to obstruction by changes in renal blood flow (RBF) and glomerular filtration rate (GFR). READ MORE

  5. 5. Endothelial Nitric Oxide in the Control of Glomerular Hemodynamics

    Author : János Pittner; Daniel H. Casellas; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Cell biology; Juxtamedullary nephron; afferent arteriole; nitric oxide; endothelial calcium; diaminofluoresceins; fura-2; autoregulation; shear stress; flow; videomicroscopy; Cellbiologi; Cell biology; Cellbiologi; Physiology; fysiologi;

    Abstract : The afferent arteriole of the kidney is a unique vascular segment: it is the effector of the renal hemodynamic autoregulation. The use of the isolated, perfused juxtamedullary nephron preparation makes it possible to visualize the afferent arteriole while preserving its tissue surroundings and the functional integrity of the nephron.
