  1. 1. Interaction of flows with slender structures and liquid-infused surfaces

    Author : Johan Sundin; Shervin Bagheri; Daniel Chung; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; flow-structure interactions; flow control; turbulent boundary layers; soft sensors; drag reduction; capillary waves; surfactants; Marangoni stress; mixing enhancement; Engineering Mechanics; Teknisk mekanik;

    Abstract : Surface textures and protrusions can be used to control or gain information about a flow. We investigate the solid-flow interaction of filamentous structures and liquid-infused surfaces (LIS). Both filamentous structures and LIS are used by organisms and can be exploited in technical applications. READ MORE

  2. 2. Structural transitions of proton-gated ion channels : Involving pH sensing, heterogeneity and lipid interactions

    Author : Urška Rovšnik; Erik Lindahl; Hugues Nury; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; ion channels; cryo-electron microscopy; pH gating; simulations; structure-function relationship; GLIC; DeCLIC; biokemi; Biochemistry;

    Abstract : Studying protein structure and function involves analyzing the relationship between a protein's three-dimensional assembly and its dynamic biochemical activity. The superfamily of pentameric ligand-gated ion channels (pLGICs) constitutes a classic yet illuminating experimental system for structure-function studies. READ MORE

  3. 3. Land-Sea Interactions in the Coastal-Marine System of the Baltic Sea under Hydro-Climatic Variability

    Author : Yuanying Chen; Vladimir Cvetkovic; Carmen Prieto; Marco Marani; KTH; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Baltic Sea; nutrient loads; hydro-climatic variability; hydrodynamics; solute transport; water quality.; Land and Water Resources Engineering; Mark- och vattenteknik;

    Abstract : This thesis investigates a few important component processes for understanding and quantifying eutrophication in the Baltic Sea, that include characterization of nutrient loadings from land, water flow in the sea under changing climate conditions and transport of solutes originating from different locations along the coast. Furthermore, this study aims to improve our understanding on how processes from land (the nutrient loading conditions) and the sea (transport dynamics and water quality) couple to determine the fate of nutrients in the sea and the water quality in a selected localized coastal area, the Himmerfjärden Bay. 4. 4. Flow and Rheology of Pulp Suspensions at Medium Consistency

    Author : Tomas Wikström; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; fluidisation; yield stress; agitation; pulp suspension; computational fluid dynamics; fibre properties; turbulence; screening; Bingham model;

    Abstract : Traditionally, development of pulp processing equipment has been based on the accumulation of qualitative knowledge (experience) with respect to the interaction of equipment and pulp suspensions. This way of developing equipment requires several trials and prototypes before the final product and process data can be established. READ MORE
