  1. 1. Limit theorems for generalizations of GUE random matrices

    Author : Martin Bender; Kurt Johansson; Arno Kuijlaars; KTH; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Random matrices; Central limit theorem; Dyson s Brownian motion; Interacting diffusion; Point process; Non-Hermitian; Scaling limit; MATHEMATICS; MATEMATIK;

    Abstract : This thesis consists of two papers devoted to the asymptotics of random matrix ensembles and measure valued stochastic processes which can be considered as generalizations of the Gaussian unitary ensemble (GUE) of Hermitian matrices H=A+A†, where the entries of A are independent identically distributed (iid) centered complex Gaussian random variables. In the first paper, a system of interacting diffusing particles on the real line is studied; special cases include the eigenvalue dynamics of matrix-valued Ornstein-Uhlenbeck processes (Dyson's Brownian motion). 2. 2. Asymptotics of random matrices and matrix valued processes

    Author : Stefan Israelsson; Kurt Johansson; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Mathematics; Random matrices; singular interaction; spectral distribution; fluctuation limit; distribution valued processes; MATEMATIK; MATHEMATICS; MATEMATIK; matematisk statistik; Mathematical Statistics;

    Abstract : This thesis contains three parts. In the first two papers we consider spectral properties of symmetric matrices with elements consisting of independent Ornstein Uhlenbeck processes. The eigenvalues behave as a particle system on the real line with singular interaction consisting of electrostatic repulsion and a linear restoring force. READ MORE

  3. 3. Anaerobic Digestion of Solid Residues on the Bolivian Altiplano

    Author : Rene Alvarez; Avdelningen för kemiteknik; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Bioteknik; Biotechnology; Altiplano; renewable energy; temperature fluctuation; low temperature; farm-scale digestion; manure; solid residues; Anaerobic Digestion; biogas;

    Abstract : Anaerobic digestion and the production of biogas can provide an efficient means of meeting energy needs locally and reducing organic loading due to untreated waste material in water recipients. Furthermore, residues after anaerobic digestion may be used as a fertilizer to improve the soil in many parts of the world. READ MORE

  4. 4. Aspects of probabalistic serviceability limit state design of dry deep mixing

    Author : Niclas Bergman; Stefan Larsson; Tim Länsivaara; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Byggvetenskap; Civil and Architectural Engineering;

    Abstract : An expanding population and increased need for infrastructure increasingly necessitate construction on surfaces with poor soil conditions. To facilitate the construction of buildings, roads and railroads in areas with poor soil conditions, these areas are often improved by means of foundation engineering. READ MORE

  5. 5. On voltage fluctuations in low voltage grids – characterization, propagation and impact on LED lamps

    Author : Elena Gutierrez Ballesteros; Sarah Rönnberg; Aurora Gil de Castro; Izaskun Azcarate; Luleå tekniska universitet; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; household devices; LED lamps; light flicker; low voltage grid; voltage fluctuations; Electric Power Engineering; Elkraftteknik;

    Abstract : The work presented focuses on voltage fluctuations produced by household devices and their impact on the light output of LED lamps. Voltage fluctuations can produce unsteadiness on the light intensity of the lamps, so-called light flicker. An observer may or may not experience light flicker, depending on e.g. READ MORE
