  1. 16. Thermal formation and chlorination of dioxins and dioxin-like compounds

    Author : Stina Jansson; Stellan Marklund; Mats Tysklind; Jochen F. Müller; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; dioxin; dioxin-like compounds; isomer distribution pattern; homologue profile; injection; O2PLS; PCDD; PCDF; PCN; PCBz; PCPh; MSW combustion; formation; chlorination; flue gas; quench profiles; Environmental chemistry; Miljökemi;

    Abstract : This thesis contributes to an increased understanding of the formation of dioxins and dioxin-like compounds in combustion processes. Although emissions to air from waste incineration facilities have been greatly reduced by the use of efficient air pollution control measures, the resulting residues (ashes and filters) are highly toxic and are classified as hazardous waste. 2. 17. Application of Infrared and UV-Visible Remote Sensing Techniques for Studying the Stratosphere and for Estimating Antrophogenic Emissions

    Author : Johan Mellqvist; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; stratospheric ozone; temperature dependence; non linearity; FTIR; VOC; flue gas; DOAS; long path FTIR; fugitive emissions;

    Abstract : Infrared and UV/visible broadband absorption techniques have been used in three applications related to environmental research and atmospheric science. The techniques are based on measuring the attenuation of light by the atmosphere in the infrared and UV/visible region, and since a very large number of species absorb light in these wavelength regions, the techniques studied allow the measurement of several species simultaneously. 3. 18. Study and Modeling of the Reduction of Sulfur Dioxide, Nitrogen Oxides and Hydrogen Chloride by Dry Injection Technologies

    Author : Wuyin Wang; Avdelningen för kemiteknik; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; reaction kinetics; pore particle size; HCl; NOx; desulfurization; Ca-based sorbent; flue gas; Chemical technology and engineering; Kemiteknik och kemisk teknologi;

    Abstract : The potential and mechanism to reduce acid gases, such as SO2, NOx and HCl by dry Ca-based sorbents have been studied to improve the efficiencies of the process and sorbent utilization. Several natural limestones were tested for SO2 removal. Calcium conversion as high as 45% was achieved within 0.3 s at 1000°C, 1000 ppm SO2 and Ca/S=1. READ MORE

  4. 19. A Thermoeconomic Evaluation of CO2 Capture with Focus on Gas Turbine-Based Power Plants

    Author : Björn Fredriksson Möller; Kraftverksteknik; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Termisk teknik; climate change; optimisation; genetic algorithms; applied thermodynamics; Thermal engineering; AZEP; GTPOM; gas turbine; CO2 capture; thermoeconomy; termodynamik;

    Abstract : The increasing emissions of carbon dioxide from fossil fuel burning are today thought to be one of the main contributors to global warming. At the same time, developing countries are striving for an increased welfare and burning more fossil fuel, which in turn is augmenting the greenhouse gas effect. READ MORE

  5. 20. SiCFET gassensors : theory, developent, and applications to flue gas cleaning processes  in power plants

    Author : Zhafira Darmastuti; Anita Lloyd Lloyd Spetz; Lars Ojamäe; Mike Andersson; Niclas Lindqvist; Mikael Larsson; Jaco Visser; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : Environmental and health concerns lead to stricter regulations on power plant emission. Sensors play an important role, not only as part of the process control to ensure that the effluent stays under the regulated values, but also to increase the pollution removal efficiency and to decrease the reagent consumption.
