1. Freshwater, density gradients and biological processes in cold, brackish seas : aspects of the biogeophysical fluid dynamics characterising the Baltic Sea
Abstract : The dominant component in the ocean water is freshwater. In this thesis its mixing and the freshwater-induced dynamics are discussed, with cold, brackish basins such as the Baltic Sea especially in mind. A mathematical framework is derived to allow for a consistent way of adding freshwater effects to the governing equations. READ MORE

2. Large Eddy Simulation of Complex Turbulent Flows
Abstract : This thesis concerns the Large Eddy Simulation methodology and its application to predict complex turbulent flows at high Reynolds numbers, and at times also with high Mach numbers. The meaning of the word ?complex? refers both to the presence of complex flow phenomena and the, often, complex geometry of man-made devices restricting the flow. READ MORE

3. Compression moulding of SMC : experiments and simulation
Abstract : Due to excellent properties and relatively low material and manufacturing costs, the use of fibre reinforced polymer composites have increased during the last decades. One method that is suitable for large scale productions of e.g. lightweight vehicle components is compression moulding of sheet moulding compound (SMC). READ MORE

4. Molecular Dynamics Simulations of Fluid Lipid Membranes
Abstract : Lipid molecules form thin biological membranes that envelop all living cells, and behave as two-dimensional liquid sheets immersed in bulk water. The interactions of such biomembranes with their environment lay the foundation of a plethora of biological processes rooted in the mesoscopic domain - length scales of 1-1000 nm and time scales of 1-1000 ns. 5. Large Eddy Simulation of Turbulent Swirling Flows and Turbulent Premixed Combustion
Abstract : With the increasing concerns about our environment and human health, more and more stringent emission limits have been specified. These adopted and still coming emission limits require and promote more accurate, less experiential methods to design and develop the combustors. READ MORE
