  1. 11. Control Strategy for Energy Efficient Fluid Power Actuators : Utilizing Individual Metering

    Author : Björn Eriksson; Jan-Olov Palmberg; Jonas Larsson; Jochen Pohl; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Fluid power; mode switch; energy efficient; independent metering; split spool; poppet; Fluid mechanics; Strömningsmekanik;

    Abstract : This thesis presents a solution enabling lower losses in hydraulic actuator systems. A mobile fluid power system often contains several different actuators supplied with a single load sensing pump. One of the main advantages is the need of only one system pump. This makes the fluid power system compact and cost-effective. READ MORE

  2. 12. Numerical computations of the unsteady flow in a radial turbine

    Author : Fredrik Hellström; Laszlo Fuchs; Jonas Bredberg; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Pulsatile flow; radial turbines; pipe flow; effects of inlet conditions; Fluid mechanics; Strömningsmekanik;

    Abstract : Non-pulsatile and pulsatile flow in bent pipes and radial turbine has been assessed with numerical simulations. The flow field in a single bent pipe has been computed with different turbulence modelling approaches. READ MORE

  3. 13. Experimental studies of large particles in Newtonian and non-Newtonian fluids

    Author : Sagar Zade; Luca Brandt; Fredrik Lundell; Ellen Longmire; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; turbulence; finite-size; particle-laden flows; duct flow; pipe flow; viscoelastic fluid; viscoplastic fluid; Engineering Mechanics; Teknisk mekanik;

    Abstract : In everyday human life, laminar flow is arguably an exception whereas turbulent flow is the norm. Yet, the former has been much better understood, naturally since laminar flow renders itself to treatment in a relatively easier fashion compared to turbulence with its chaotic dynamics across multiple scales in space and time. 4. 14. Flow Duct Acoustics : An LES Approach

    Author : Emma Alenius; Mats Åbom; Laszlo Fuchs; Oliver Paschereit; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; aero-acoustics; duct-acoustics; sound generation; acoustic scattering; acoustic-flow interaction; LES; IC-engines; orifice plate; confined jet;

    Abstract : The search for quieter internal combustion engines drives the quest for a better understanding of the acoustic properties of engine duct components. Simulations are an important tool for enhanced understanding; they give insight into the flow-acoustic interaction in components where it is difficult to perform measurements. READ MORE

  5. 15. Interaction of flows with slender structures and liquid-infused surfaces

    Author : Johan Sundin; Shervin Bagheri; Daniel Chung; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; flow-structure interactions; flow control; turbulent boundary layers; soft sensors; drag reduction; capillary waves; surfactants; Marangoni stress; mixing enhancement; Engineering Mechanics; Teknisk mekanik;

    Abstract : Surface textures and protrusions can be used to control or gain information about a flow. We investigate the solid-flow interaction of filamentous structures and liquid-infused surfaces (LIS). Both filamentous structures and LIS are used by organisms and can be exploited in technical applications. READ MORE
