1. On Computational Homogenization of Fluid-filled Porous Materials
Abstract : Porous materials are present in many natural as well as engineered structures. Engineering examples include filters, sanitary products and foams while examples of natural occurrences are oil reservoirs and biological tissue. READ MORE

2. Nonlinear Interaction Between Ultrasonic Waves and Cracks and Interfaces
Abstract : The subject of this thesis is the development of new ultrasound inspection techniques for detection of cracks that are smaller than the wavelength of the inspecting wave and the characterization of cracks in fluid-filled pipes as either surface-breaking or subsurface. The spectrum of the scattered field of a partially closed crack comprises harmonic components not expected to be found in the case of linear scatterers such as pores or inclusions. READ MORE

3. Numerical methods for wave propagation in solids containing faults and fluid-filled fractures
Abstract : This thesis develops numerical methods for the simulation of wave propagation in solids containing faults and fluid-filled fractures. These techniques have applications in earthquake hazard analysis, seismic imaging of reservoirs, and volcano seismology. A central component of this work is the coupling of mechanical systems. 4. Computational Modeling of the Dynamics of Fluid-Filled Porous Media with Application to Road and Railway Structures
Abstract : The dynamics of fluid-saturated porous media is a challenging topic with applications in many engineering fields like, e.g., road and railway mechanics. The complexity of the problem requires high computational effort when performing simulations of the coupled dynamic deformation and fluid flow in a saturated porous medium. READ MORE

5. Waveguide Finite Elements Applied on a Car Tyre
Abstract : Structures acting as waveguides are quite common withexamples being, construction beams, fluid filled pipes, railsand extruded aluminium profiles. Curved structures like cartyres and pipe-bends may also be considered as waveguides. Wavesolutions in such structures may be found by a method calledthe Waveguide Finite Element Method or WFEM.
