  1. 1. Characterization of Fluorescent Dyes for Biochemical Applications. Chemometric Analysis of Spectroscopic Data

    Author : Jan Nygren; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; principal component analysis; fluorescein; chemometrics; optical spectroscopy; fluorophores; thiazole orange;

    Abstract : Fluorescent dyes are used in a number of different biochemical applications to visualize and probe biomolecules. The aim of this work was to characterize the spectroscopic properties of two such dyes, fluorescein and thiazole orange, and to develop chemometric methods to extract further information from these data. 2. 2. Skin circulation measured by fluorescein flowmetry

    Author : Eduardo Patricio Proaño Romero; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : Skin circulation;

    Abstract : Fluorescein flowmetry (FF) is an indicator dilution technique using sodium fluorescein as an indicator. If the tissue is illuminated with U-V light or blue light, after a bolus injection of the dye, fluorescence is seen in the tissue, and can be measured either photographically or by the video technique. 3. 3. Central retinal vein occlusion: Cetrain risk factors, electroretinography and an experimental treatment model

    Author : Jörgen Larsson; Lund Oftalmologi; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; flicker; ERG; electroretinography; fluorescein angiography; rubeosis; CRVO; central retianl vein occlusion; ultrasound; streptokinase; experimental; Ophtalmology; Oftalmologi;

    Abstract : The presence of activated protein C resistance, plasma hyperhomocysteinemia and the MTHFR C677T mutation in patients with central retinal vein occlusion were investigated and compared to a control group. Activated protein C resistance was overrepresented in the group of patients less than 50 years of age whereas this was not the case in patients more than 50 years of age. READ MORE

  4. 4. Studies on Retinal Circulation in Experimental Animals, Healthy Human Eyes and Eyes with Diabetic Retinopathy

    Author : Lidija Tomić; Albert Alm; Einar Stefánsson; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Retinal Circulation; Labelled Microsphere Technique; Monkeys; Blue Field Simulation; Macular Leukocyte Velocity; Fluorescein Angiogram; Mean Transit Time; Impulse-Response Technique; Arterio-Venous Passage Time; Vessel Diameter; Oxygen; Carbin Dioxide; Diabetes Retinopathy; Ophtalmology; Oftalmologi;

    Abstract : The retina is a highly metabolically active tissue with large demands on the supply of nutrients. Disorders affecting the retina often include some vasculopathy with an impact on retinal circulation. READ MORE

  5. 5. Improved techniques for CE and MALDI-MS including microfluidic hyphenations foranalysis of biomolecules

    Author : Johan Jacksén; Åsa Emmer; Tomas Bergman; KTH; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Capillary electrophoresis; Hydrophobic peptides proteins; Matrix-Assisted Laser Desorption Ionization Mass Spectrometry; Prestructured target; Off-line interface; Silicon micro canal; Matrix; Peptide-fluorescein isothiocyanate adducts; Bovine serum albumin; DHAP; Hyphenations; Hydrophobicity; Single wood fiber analysis; Pre-concentration; Concentration platform; Analytical chemistry; Analytisk kemi;

    Abstract : In this thesis, improved techniques for biomolecule analysis using capillary electrophoresis (CE) and matrix-assisted laser desorption/ionization-mass spectrometry (MALDI-MS) and hyphenations between those have been presented.A pre-concentration method which is possible to apply in both techniques, has also been investigated.
