  1. 1. Towards Undistorted Fluorescence for Tissue Diagnostics and Therapy Monitoring

    Author : Haiyan Xie; Atomfysik; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; upconversion; upconverting nanoparticles; fluorescence-guided-surgery; fluorescence diagnostics; photodynamic therapy; multi-spectral imaging; spectroscopy; biomedical optics; fluorescence; Fysicumarkivet A:2014:Xie;

    Abstract : Fluorescence techniques for applications in tissue diagnostics and therapy monitoring were investigated and developed in the work presented in this thesis. The aim was to develop fluorescence diagnostics for the detection of malignant tumors and better delimitation of the tumor margins, using the enhanced contrast in fluorescence between tumor and surrounding healthy tissue. Abstract : Aspects of fluorescence diagnostics and photodynamic therapy in non-melanoma skin cancer. Carin Sandberg Department of Dermatology and Venereology, Institute of Clinical Sciences at Sahlgrenska Academy, University of Gothenburg, Gothenburg, Sweden. READ MORE

  3. 3. Temporal Modulation in Fluorescence Spectroscopy and Imaging for Biological Applications

    Author : Gustav Persson; Jerker Widengren; Jörg Enderlein; KTH; []
    Keywords : NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; fluorescence; spectroscopy; microscopy; modulated excitation; intensity modulation; fluorescence correlation spectroscopy; transient states; molecular kinetics; Physics; Fysik;

    Abstract : This thesis explores the benefits of intensity modulation for the purpose of extending the range of applications of fluorescence spectroscopy and imaging in cellular and molecular biology and medicine. Long-lived transient states of fluorescent molecules can, because of their long lifetimes, be used to detect subtle changes in the microenvironment of the molecule. READ MORE

  4. 4. Optical spectroscopy and fluorescence imaging for cancer diagnostics

    Author : Pontus Svenmarker; Atomfysik; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Biomedical optics; Diffuse-reflection spectroscopy; Upconverting nanoparticles; Inverse problem; Fluorescence; Tomography; Imaging; Scattering media; Photon migration; Fysicumarkivet A:2012:Svenmarker;

    Abstract : This work presents optical methods for diagnosing cancer. A complementary method for diagnosing eye cancer was investigated using a technique developed within this work named transscleral optical spectroscopy (TOS). READ MORE

  5. 5. Whiteness and Fluorescence in Layered Paper and Board : Perception and Optical Modelling

    Author : Ludovic Gustafsson Coppel; Per Edström; Caisa Johansson; Markku Hauta-Kasari; Mittuniversitetet; []
    Keywords : ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURVETENSKAP; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; NATURAL SCIENCES; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Whiteness; Perception; Colour Appearance Modelling; Paper Optics; Light Scattering; Fluorescence; Lateral Light Scattering; White-Top Mottle; Kubelka-Munk; Radiative Transfer;

    Abstract : This thesis is about modelling and predicting the perceived whiteness of plain paper from the paper composition, including fluorescent whitening agents. This involves psychophysical modelling of perceived whiteness from measurable light reflectance properties, and physical modelling of light scattering and fluorescence from the paper composition.
