1. From emission sources to human tissues: modelling the exposure to per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances
Abstract : Produced since the 1950’s, per- and polyfluoroalkyl (PFASs) substances are persistent, bioaccumulative and toxic compounds that are ubiquitous in the environment. Being proteinophilic with a tendency to partition to protein-rich tissues, PFASs have been found in human serum worldwide and in wildlife with a predominance of long-chain perfluoroalkyl carboxilic acids (C7-C14 PFCAs) and perfluoroalkyl sulfonic acids (C6-C9 PFSAs). 2. Environmental Assessment of Alternative Durable Water Repellent Chemicals. First steps towards a holistic assessment
Abstract : Durable water repellent (DWR) finishes are applied to textiles to impart water and in some cases oil repellency. Water (and oil) repellency can be an important contribution to a textile’s performance, for comfort or for the protection of human lives under extreme conditions. READ MORE

3. Why Does It Always Rain On Me? : Properties of Alternative Durable Water Repellent Chemicals for Textiles
Abstract : Environmental pollution caused by persistent perfluoroalkyl acids (PFAAs) - Organic Chemicals with confirmed levels of toxicity and propensity for bioaccumulation - has given rise to global environmental concerns. Functional textiles Containing durable water repellents (DWRs) That are based on side-chain fluorinated polymers are Noted to be the major contributors to the release of Such environmental pollutants. 4. Chemical substitution with a life cycle perspective: The case of per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances in durable water repellents
Abstract : The aim of the research presented in this thesis was to support the process of substitution of side-chain fluorinated polymers in durable water repellents (DWRs), that give rise to emissions of hazardous per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFASs). The focus was on: i) the provision of improved decision support regarding the environmental and human health performance of alternatives, and ii) public readiness for substitution and what messages can motivate consumers to voluntary substitution. 5. The missing links : Towards an Informed Substitution of Durable Water Repellent Chemicals for Textiles
Abstract : Durable water repellents (DWRs) that provide liquid repellency to functional textiles are part of an ongoing global substitution process. The process of substitution was initiated after DWRs based on side-chain fluorinated polymers (long-chain SFPs) were identified to contribute to the diffuse release of long-chain perfluoroalkyl acids (PFAAs) to the environment.
