1. Miniaturized Techniques for Protein Analysis
Abstract : Proteins are a highly diversified group of molecules, andfor their study, advanced analytical tools are required. Inparticular, a need for high-throughput techniques has emergedin order to enable the characterization of large sets ofproteins. READ MORE

2. Vibrational Sum Frequency Spectroscopy Studies at the Air-Liquid Interface
Abstract : In this thesis the structure and hydration of small organic and amphipilic compounds adsorbed at the air-liquid interface, have been studied using the nonlinear optical technique Vibrational Sum Frequency Spectroscopy (VSFS). The second order nature of the sum frequency process makes this technique particularly surface sensitive and very suitable for interfacial studies, as molecules at the surface can be distinguished even in the presence of a vast excess of the same molecules in the bulk. 3. Interactions Between Biopolymers and Surfactants with Focus on Fluorosurfactants and Proteins
Abstract : The aim of this thesis was to obtain a better understanding of the association between surfactants and biopolymers in bulk solutions and at solid/aqueous liquid interface. In order to do this, the interactions between surfactants and biopolymers were investigated with a variety of experimental techniques. READ MORE

4. Preparation, characterisation and wetting of fluorinated cellulose surfaces
Abstract : This thesis deals with the wetting by oil mixtures of two different model cellulose surfaces. The surfaces studied were a regenerated cellulose (RG) surface prepared by spin-coating, and a film consisting of polyelectrolyte multilayers (PEM) of Poly(ethyleneimine) (PEI) and a carboxymethylated Microfibrillated Cellulose (MFC). 5. Novel oil resistant cellulosic materials
Abstract : The aim of this study has been to prepare and characterise oil resistant cellulosic materials, ranging from model surfaces to papers and aerogels. The cellulosic materials were made oil resistant by chemical and topographic modifications, based on surface energy, surface roughness and barrier approaches. READ MORE
