  1. 1. Flying personnel : cancer, acute myocardial infarction and mortality

    Author : Anette Linnersjö; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : Aim: Flying personnel are exposed to several factors in the work environment that can potentially increase their cancer incidence, mortality and acute myocardial infarction (AMI) incidence. The aim of this licentiate thesis is to study cancer incidence among Swedish cabin crew in relation to exposures in the work environment and to study mortality and AMI incidence in Swedish airline and military flying personnel. 2. 2. Movements in the dark : flying, landing and walking in insects

    Author : THERESE REBER; Funktionell zoologi; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; insect; vision; light intensity; bumblebee; retina; behavioural adaptation; flight; landing; dung beetle; nocturnal adaptation; sky compass; straight-line orientation;

    Abstract : Flying, as well as walking insects rely on vision to regulate locomotion, even in the dark when the visual system is much less reliable. To manage visual control of these behaviours at low light intensities, many insects have evolved optical adaptations, such as larger facet lenses and wider rhabdoms, and neural adaptations, such as spatial and temporal summation, to increase their visual sensitivity. 3. 3. A flying start : Adapted hatching and post-hatch feeding in broiler chickens

    Author : Malin Boyner; Sveriges lantbruksuniversitet; Sveriges lantbruksuniversitet; []
    Keywords : LANTBRUKSVETENSKAPER; AGRICULTURAL SCIENCES;

    Abstract : Conventional hatching practices do not involve provision of feed and water to broiler chickens before placement at the rearing farm. This can pose problems, especially for early hatchlings, which remain feed-restricted for a considerable period due to biological variation in hatch time. READ MORE

  4. 4. Across landscapes and seascapes : The movement ecology of diving and flying guillemots and gulls during breeding

    Author : Thomas J. Evans; Evolutionär ekologi; []
    Keywords : Uria aalge; Larus fuscus; Laridae; animal flight; foraging ecology; movement ecology; seabirds;

    Abstract : Most seabirds breed colonially, at which time they make central-place foraging trips. Parents must collect food both for themselves and for egg production/chick-rearing. READ MORE

  5. 5. Perception Aware Guidance Framework for Micro Aerial Vehicles

    Author : Christoforos Kanellakis; George Nikolakopoulos; Danica Kragic; Luleå tekniska universitet; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; perception driven control for MAVs; aerial inspection; vision based guidance for aerial manipulation; robots in low-light environments; Reglerteknik; Control Engineering;

    Abstract : Micro Aerial Vehicles (MAVs) are platforms that have received significant research resources within robotics community, since they are characterized by simple mechanical design and versatile movement. These platforms possess capabilities that are suitable for complex task execution, in situations which are impossible or dangerous for the human operator to perform, as well as to reduce the operating costs and increase the overall efficiency of the operation.
