  1. 1. Molecular recognition of proteins by functionalized folded polypeptide receptors

    Author : Theresa Andersson; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES;

    Abstract : This thesis describes the design, synthesis and characterization of synthetic receptor molecules for the recognition and binding of proteins with applications in bioseparation and biosensing. A 42-residue polypeptide, designed to fold into a helix-loop-helix motif and dimerize in solution to form a four-helix bundle, was used as the scaffold. READ MORE

  2. 2. Modeling and simulation of intrinsically disordered proteins

    Author : Joao Henriques; Beräkningskemi; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Intrinsically disordered proteins; Coarse-grained models; Atomistic models; Metropolis Monte Carlo simulations; Molecular dynamics simulations; Sampling; Conformational analysis; Charge regulation; Surface adsorption;

    Abstract : This work is primarily about the development, validation and application of computer simulation models for intrinsically disordered proteins, both in solution and in the presence of uniformly charged, ideal surfaces. The models in question are either coarse-grained or atomistic in nature, and their applications are dependent on the specific purpose of each study. READ MORE

  3. 3. The EGF-like Modules of Anticoagulant Protein S. Studies of Ca2+ binding and module interactions

    Author : Yvonne Stenberg; Malmö Klinisk kemi; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; enzymology; Proteins; Klinisk kemi; Clinical chemistry; calcium binding; Protein S; EGF-like module; Proteiner; enzymologi;

    Abstract : Protein S functions as a cofactor to activated protein C (APC) in the degradation of factors Va and VIIIa. In plasma protein S circulates in two forms; 30-40 % circulates as free protein S molecules while the remaining 60-70 % exists in a 1:1 complex with C4b-binding protein (C4BP). Only the free form of protein S functions as a cofactor to APC. READ MORE

  4. 4. Dynamics of Discrete Curves with Applications to Protein Structure

    Author : Shuangwei Hu; Antti J. Niemi; Maxim Zabzine; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Frenet equations; integrable model; folded proteins; discrete curves; Fysik; Physics; Physical Biology; Fysikalisk biologi;

    Abstract : In order to perform a specific function, a protein needs to fold into the proper structure. Prediction the protein structure from its amino acid sequence has still been unsolved problem. The main focus of this thesis is to develop new approach on the protein structure modeling by means of differential geometry and integrable theory. READ MORE
