  1. 1. Prenatal Ultrasound and X-ray - Potentially Adverse Effects on the CNS

    Author : Karin Glimskär Stålberg; Helle Kieler; Ove Axelsson; Bengt Haglund; Eleni Petridou; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : Obstetrics and gynaecology; ultrasound; X-ray; fetus; risk; childhood cancer; schizophrenia; Obstetrik och kvinnosjukdomar;

    Abstract : The aim with this thesis was to assess the impact of prenatal ultrasound exposure on psychotic illness, childhood brain tumors (CBT) and school achievement, and to evaluate prenatal X-ray exposure and the risk of CBT.In a cohort study, children born in Malmö 1973-1978, where prenatal ultrasound was used routinely, were considered exposed (n=13, 212) and children born at hospitals with no use of ultrasound, were considered unexposed (n=357,733). 2. 2. Quantum nuclear dynamics in  x-ray scattering and lasing

    Author : Yasen Velkov; Faris Gel'mukhanov; Reinhold Fink; KTH; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Theoretical chemistry; Teoretisk kemi;

    Abstract : This thesis presents a theoretical study of the role of nuclear degrees of freedom in the x-ray absorption, x-ray resonant scattering  and some aspects of the interaction of matter with strong laser fields. Most numerical simulations are performed with a time-dependent wave-packet program that have proved its robustness  in previous investigations. READ MORE

  3. 3. Hands-on osteoporosis screening with digital x-ray radiogrammetry

    Author : Michael Wilczek; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : According to epidemiological studies about one third of women and one fifth of men over 50 years will experience a fragility fracture. These fractures account for substantial mortality, morbidity and health care cost. Osteoporosis is a silent disease and thus often goes undiagnosed for a long time. READ MORE

  4. 4. Effects of early probiotic supplementation in a pediatric setting : Focus on body composition, metabolism and inflammation

    Author : Frida Karlsson Videhult; Christina E West; Olle Hernell; Inger Öhlund; Velmurugesan Arulampalam; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Lactobacillus paracasei ssp. paracasei F19; infants; children; growth; body composition; metabolism; follow-up; Pediatrics; pediatrik;

    Abstract : We aimed to determine the short- and long-term effects on growth, body composition, metabolic and inflammatory markers following supplementation with the probiotic Lactobacillus paracasei ssp. paracasei F19 (LF19) during weaning. READ MORE
