  1. 6. Loss Minimisation in Dynamic Food Processes

    Author : Marcus Henningsson; Livsmedelsteknik; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Livsmedelsteknik; Food and drink technology; Teknik; Technological sciences; CFD; dual plane ERT; ERT; waste minimisation; loss; milk; density; sensor fusion; multivariate calibration; electrical resistance tomography; dairy process; turbidity; conductivity;

    Abstract : The overall aim of the present work was to reduce losses during product changes or during rinsing in continuous food processing, with particular attention to dairy plants. The concept of sensor fusion of common process instruments was implemented as a tool to monitor the milk and fat concentrations in a dairy processing line. READ MORE

  2. 7. Reducing the environmental impact of food products logistics systems

    Author : Kristina Liljestrand; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; food waste; food logistics; green logistics; food logistics systems; food supply chains; Transport’s impact on climate;

    Abstract : This thesis addresses how to reduce two types of environmental impact generated in logistics systems: transport’s impact on climate and food waste. In mitigating both these types of environmental impact, actors in food supply chains (FSC)—producers, wholesalers, and retailers—play important roles, for both causes of environmental impacts and improvement actions to moderate them emerge within their logistics systems. 3. 8. Household food waste management – Evaluations of current status and potential improvements using life-cycle assessment methodology

    Author : Anna Bernstad; Avdelningen för kemiteknik; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; waste management; household waste; food waste; life-cycle assessment; anaerobic digestion; systems analysis;

    Abstract : An increased understanding of the world’s limited resources and the negative environmental impacts connected to solid waste management has in recent years increased interest in separate collection and treatment of organic waste in many parts of the world. As an example, increased biological treatment of organic waste is an explicit goal within the Swedish national solid waste management strategy (SEPA, 2006) and the national environmental objectives state that 35% of all organic household waste should be treated biologically by 2010 (SEPA, 2007). 4. 9. Food Packaging for Sustainable Development

    Author : Helén Williams; Fredrik Wikström; Ole Jørgen Hanssen; Karlstads universitet; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Packaging; sustainable development; service perspective; food losses; food waste; consumer interaction; life cycle assessment - LCA; consumer value; Miljö- och energisystem; Environmental and Energy Systems;

    Abstract : Packaging has been on the environmental agenda for decades. It has been discussed and debated within the society mainly as an environmental problem. Production, distribution and consumption of food and drinks contribute significant to the environmental impact. However, consumers in the EU waste about 20% of the food they buy. READ MORE

  5. 10. Mixed fuels composed of household waste and waste wood : Characterization, combustion behaviour and potential emissions

    Author : Mar Edo Giménez; Stina Jansson; Jonas Dahl; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; MSW; RDF; persistent organic pollutants; PCDD; PCDF; solid waste pre-treatment; torrefaction; food waste; contaminated wood;

    Abstract :    Incineration with energy recovery is the main disposal strategy for waste that cannot be reused or recycled, and a well-established source of energy in Europe, especially in Sweden where 2.2 Mtonnes of waste including domestic and imported municipal solid waste (MSW) and waste wood (WW) were combusted during 2015.
