  1. 11. The Karma of Products : Exploring the Causality of Environmental Pressure with Causal Loop Diagram and Environmental Footprint

    Author : Rafael Laurenti; Björn Frostell; Andrius Plepys; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Products; Environmental Pressure; Causal Loop Diagram; Environmental Footprint; Industrial Ecology; Industriell ekologi;

    Abstract : Environmental pressures from consumer products and mechanisms of predetermination were examined in this thesis using causal loop diagram (CLD) and life cycle assessment (LCA) footprinting to respectively illustrate and provide some indicators about these mechanisms. Theoretical arguments and their practical implications were subjected to qualitative and quantitative analysis, using secondary and primary data. READ MORE

  2. 12. Transcription factors regulating the immunoglobulin heavy chain locus

    Author : Tove Andersson; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : The immunoglobulin heavy (IgH) chain locus is subject to somatic recombination and changes in gene expression in B lineage cells. Enhancers located in the 3' end of the locus may in part regulate these events. This work aimed at increasing the understanding of the function of one of these elements, the HS1,2 enhancer. 3. 13. Regulation of cytochrome P4502C7 : effects of growth hormone and vitamin A

    Author : Stefan Westin; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : P450; growth hormone; vitamin A; gene regulation; orphan receptors;

    Abstract : Members of the CYP2C subfamily, highly represented in rat liver, are constitutively expressed genes that encode enzymes that metabolize endogenous substrates such as steroids. Expression of P4502C11 and P4502C12 in rat liver is regulated in a sex-specific manner that ultimately depends on the sexually differentiated secretory pattern of GH release. READ MORE

  4. 14. Studies on function and regulation of the transcription factor C/EBPalpha

    Author : Per Flodby; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : The transcription factor C/EBPalpha was originally identified as a protein involved in hepatocyte-specific gene regulation. Later, it has been demonstrated that C/EBPalpha is expressed in several other tissues, mainly in adipose cells, lung, intestine, skin and in myeloid cells. READ MORE

  5. 15. Studies on growth hormone induced female-characteristic gene transcription in rat liver

    Author : Cissi Gardmo; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : Growth hormone; liver; gene expression; sex differentiation; in vivo transfection; primary hepatocytes;

    Abstract : Growth hormone (GH) secretion is sexually dimorphic, which has an impact on hepatic gene expression. This is particularly pronounced in rats but has also been demonstrated in other species, including humans. READ MORE
