  1. 1. On the contribution of forest bioenergy to climate change mitigation

    Author : Olivia Cintas Sanchez; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : LANTBRUKSVETENSKAPER; AGRICULTURAL SCIENCES; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Forest bioenergy; forest management; climate change; energy systems.; GHG balances; forest supply; carbon budget;

    Abstract : Greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions have to be drastically reduced to keep global warming below 2 degrees. Bioenergy can play a role in climate change mitigation by substituting for fossil fuels. READ MORE

  2. 2. Bioenergy from the Swedish forest sector : a partial equilibrium analysis of supply costs and implications for the forest product markets

    Author : Mattias Carlsson; Sveriges lantbruksuniversitet; Sveriges lantbruksuniversitet; []
    Keywords : SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; LANTBRUKSVETENSKAPER; AGRICULTURAL SCIENCES;

    Abstract : As a response to policy requirements to improve energy security, and to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, the use of bioenergy in Sweden has more than doubled since 1980. In 2008 bioenergy use in Sweden amounted to 108 TWh, or 18% of the total supply of primary energy. Nearly all of this bioenergy supply originates from the domestic forest sector. READ MORE

  3. 3. Forest Biomass Production Potential and its Implications for Carbon Balance

    Author : Bishnu Chandra Poudel; Mittuniversitetet; []
    Keywords : LANTBRUKSVETENSKAPER; AGRICULTURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Forestry and Wood Technology; Skog och träteknik;

    Abstract : An integrated methodological approach is used to analyse the forestbiomass production potential in the Middle Norrland region of Sweden, and itsuse to reduce carbon emissions. Forest biomass production, forest management,biomass harvest, and forest product use are analyzed in a system perspectiveconsidering the entire resource flow chains. READ MORE

  4. 4. A Systems View of Advancements in Biomass Supply Chains

    Author : Johanna Enström; Aron Larsson; Leif Olsson; Lars Eliasson; Anders Eriksson; Daniel Nilsson; Mittuniversitetet; []
    Keywords : LANTBRUKSVETENSKAPER; AGRICULTURAL SCIENCES; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Forestry logistics; Supply Chain Management; Discrete Event Simulation; Forest fuel;

    Abstract : Forest fuel is an important source of energy with potential for increased use in the Nordic countries. Profitable forest operations are dependent on logistics as the forest is a natural resource with varying conditions over widespread areas. READ MORE

  5. 5. Life cycle assessment in the development of forest products : Contributions to improved methods and practices

    Author : Gustav Sandin; Magdalena Svanström; Greg Peters; Mats Westin; Annica Pilgård; Michael Narodoslawsky; RISE; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; R D; LCA; Life cycle assessment; wood; forest product; forestry; impact assessment; scenario modelling; end-of-life modelling; allocation; multi-functional; planetary boundaries; life cycle inventory; life cycle impact assessment; environmental assessment;

    Abstract : The prospect of reducing environmental impacts is a key driver for the research and development (R&D) of new forest products. Life cycle assessment (LCA) is often used for assessing the environmental impact of such products, e.g. for the purpose of guiding R&D. READ MORE
