    Author : Ylva Edwards; Ulf Isacsson; Klaus-Werner Damm; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; bitumen; asphalt; additives; wax in bitumen; polyphosphoric acid in bitumen; rheology; IR-spectroscopy; dynamic mechanic analysis DMA ; bending beam rheometer BBR ; literature study; low temperature physical hardening; highway materials; morphology; modified bitumens; temperature susceptibility; low temperature performance; ageing; microscopy; chromatography; Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy; force ductility; conventional binder tests; asphalt performance; tensile strain restrained specimen test TSRST ; Building engineering; Byggnadsteknik;

    Abstract : This doctoral thesis consists of a literature review, presented in two papers, and another six papers describing experimental studies of the influence of different kinds of wax and polyphosporic acid on bitumen and asphalt concrete mixture properties. The literature review should give an extensive description of the field of knowledge concerning wax in bitumen. READ MORE

  2. 12. Drugs and polymers in dissolving solid dispersions : NMR imaging and spectroscopy

    Author : Carina Dahlberg; István Furó; Anna Millqvist-Fureby; Michael Schuleit; Jadwiga Tritt-Goc; KTH; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Physical chemistry; Fysikalisk kemi; Surface and colloid chemistry; Yt- och kolloidkemi; PHARMACY; FARMACI;

    Abstract : The number of poorly water-soluble drug substances in the pharmaceutical pipeline is increasing, and thereby also the need to design effective drug delivery systems providing high bioavailability. One favourable formulation approach is preparation of solid dispersions, where dispersing a poorly water-soluble drug in a water-soluble polymer matrix improves the dissolution behaviour and the bioavailability of the drug. 3. 13. Understanding Composition–Structure–Bioactivity Correlations in Bioactive Glasses

    Author : Yang Yu; Mattias Edén; Laurent Delevoye; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Bioactive glasses; Phosphosilicate glasses; Borophosphosilicate glasses; Solid-state NMR spectroscopy; Glass structure; Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy; Hydroxyapatite; Amorphous calcium phosphate; Apatite formation; In vitro bioactivity testing; Physical Chemistry; fysikalisk kemi;

    Abstract : Bioactive glasses integrate with bone/tooth tissues by forming a layer of hydroxy-carbonate apatite (HCA), which mimics the composition of bone mineral. In the current thesis, we investigated composition–structure–bioactivity correlations of phosphosilicate and borophosphosilicate (BPS) glasses. READ MORE

  4. 14. Early Hydration of Portland Cement

    Author : Rikard Ylmén; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; SEM; freeze-drying; cement; calorimetry; nano-silica; carbonation; hydration; FTIR; infrared spectroscopy;

    Abstract : The production of cement is responsible forapproximately 7 % of the total CO2 emissions caused by man. To compensate for high energyconsumption and CO2 emission, thus making the utilization of concrete more sustainable,several strategies can be used. READ MORE

  5. 15. Structural Properties of Palladium-Manganese Alloys

    Author : Alexander J Jaworowski; Lunds universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; transition metal; structure; growth; adsorption; core level photoemission. scanning tunneling microscopy; fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy; Manganese; Palladium; Rhodium; Molybdenum; NO; CO; alloy; O; Physics; Fysik; Semiconductory physics; Halvledarfysik; Fysicumarkivet A:2001:Jaworowski;

    Abstract : Structural properties of adsorbed overlayers on well-defined single crystals and of Palladium-Manganese surface alloys formed on Pd(100) have been investigated using synchrotron-based photoemission, scanning tunneling microscopy and Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy. The experimental valence electronic structure of PdMn systems on Pd(100) is compared to density functional calculations (DFT). READ MORE
