  2. 12. Combinatorial and analytical problems for fractals and their graph approximations

    Author : Konstantinos Tsougkas; Anders Karlsson; Anders Öberg; Ben Hambly; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Fractal graphs; energy Laplacian; Kusuoka measure; Mathematics; Matematik;

    Abstract : The recent field of analysis on fractals has been studied under a probabilistic and analytic point of view. In this present work, we will focus on the analytic part developed by Kigami. The fractals we will be studying are finitely ramified self-similar sets, with emphasis on the post-critically finite ones. READ MORE

  3. 13. Geometrical and percolative properties of spatially correlated models

    Author : Olof Elias; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; continuum percolation; brownian excursions; brownian interlacements; poisson cylinder model; fractal percolation;

    Abstract : This thesis consists of four papers dealing with phase transitions in various models of continuum percolation. These models exhibit complicated dependencies and are generated by different Poisson processes. For each such process there is a parameter, known as the intensity, governing its behavior. READ MORE

  4. 14. Fractal superconducting resonators for the interrogation of two-level systems

    Author : Sebastian Erik de Graaf; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Cooper-pair box; decoherence; electron spin resonance; two-level systems; atomic force microscopy; quasiparticles; near-field scanning microwave microscopy; Superconducting resonators; circuit quantum electrodynamics;

    Abstract : In this thesis we use high-Q superconducting thin-film microwave resonators to interact with several types of quantum mechanical two-level systems. Such a resonator is used as the central building block in a cryogenic near-field scanning microwave microscope (NSMM) to reach a completely new regime of NSMM operation. READ MORE

  5. 15. Flocculation with Polyelectrolytes in Latex and Microbial Systems

    Author : Leif Eriksson; Fysikalisk kemi; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; floc strength; shear sensitivity; fractal dimension; floc structure; patch flocculation; adhesion; bridging; flocculation; charge compensation; adsorption; ionic strength; molecular weight; charge density; Cationic polyelectrolytes; latex; bacteria; activ; Physical chemistry; Fysikalisk kemi;

    Abstract : Adsorption of cationic polyelectrolytes onto polystyrene latices was studied as function of polymer chemical composition and molecular weight, polymer and surface charge density and ionic strength. The ratio between polymer charges and surface charges was close to one when distances between polymer and surface charges were equal. READ MORE
